DFO advises that the Greenland Halibut (Turbot) Inshore Longline Test fishery in NAFO Divisions 3K and 3L will open on August 15, 2023 at 0600 hours for those harvesters who have been issued permits in the following vessel classes:

Molluscan Shellfish Harvesting Reopening - Southwest Coast

Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) advises the public of the re-opening for the harvesting of all bivalve shellfish including Arctic wedge calms, Atlantic razor clams, Atlantic surf clams, bay quahaugs, northern propeller clams, ocean quahaugs, softshell clam, Stimpson's surf clams, bay mussels, blue mussel, horse mussels, American oysters, bay scallops, Iceland scallops, purple hinge rock scallop, (except sea scallops), northern moon snails, waved whelks, and Stimpson's whelks for recreational or commercial purposes in the following areas effective 1400 hours on August 14, 2023:

From Robinsons Head (at Lat 48.26058 Long -58.80971), southwest to a point at Lat 47.87155 Long -59.59548, and then southeast to a point at Lat 47.53886 Long -59.35378, and east to the headland at Indian Harbour (Lat 47.63997, Long -58.4232)

Atlantic Halibut Opening in 4R for Quebec Region Fleet

DFO advises that the Atlantic halibut fishery in NAFO Division 4R, for vessels based in the Quebec Region, will open at 0001 hours EDT August 13, 2023 and close at 2359 hours EDT October 21, 2023. The specific vessel classes affected by these openings and closings are A520 and A701 to A900.

DFO advises that the Inshore fishery in NAFO Divisions 3NO for Atlantic Halibut, Monkfish, Skate and White hake using longline will open on August 20, 2023 at 0600 hours for the following vessel classes:

A251, A254, A257, A260, A263, A266, A269, and A272

4RST ATLANTIC HALIBUT – FOURTH SEASONAL OPENING DATE FOR THE NL INSHORE FIXED-GEAR FLEET

DFO advises that the Atlantic Halibut hook and line (long line) fishery in NAFO Divisions 4RST, for fixed gear vessels less than 65 feet based in Western NL and Southern Labrador that elected to fish in Period 4, will open at 0600 hours on Monday, August 14, 2023. This fishery is open to Vessel class A291 and will close at 2000 hours on August 27, 2023.

DFO reminds fish harvesters that logbooks for this fishery are mandatory and must be completed in full and submitted as per the conditions of licence.

Soft-Shell Closed Area for Crab and Shrimp in NAFO Division 2J

DFO advises that in accordance with the soft-shell protocol, the following grid in NAFO Division 2J will close to fishing Snow Crab and Northern Shrimp at midnight on Saturday, August 5, 2023 due to a high incidence of soft-shell crab:

Grid B 18

This grid will be closed to Snow crab fishing for the remainder of the year. Harvesters should note that all gear in this grid must be removed immediately. Gear must be hauled and not reset on your next fishing trip.

The closure for Northern shrimp is in effect for 60 days, and will re-open on October 4, 2023, if the shrimp fishery is open at that time.

Grid B18 is defined as the area bounded by the following coordinates:

55° 10' North, 57° 30' West
55° 10' North, 57° 20' West
55° 00' North, 57° 20' West
55° 00' North, 57° 30' West
55° 10' North, 57° 30' West
