DFO advises that in accordance with the soft-shell protocol, the following grid quadrant in Crab Fishing Area 3C in NAFO Division 3K will close to fishing Snow crab at midnight on July 20, 2023 due to a high incidence of soft-shell crab:

Grid quadrant AI 30-C

This grid will be closed to Snow crab fishing for the remainder of the year. Harvesters should note that all gear in this grid must be removed immediately. Gear must be hauled and not reset on your next fishing trip.

Grid quadrant AI 30-C is defined as the area bounded by the following coordinates:

49° 35' North, 55° 25' West

49° 30' North, 55° 25' West

49° 30' North, 55° 30' West

49° 35' North, 55° 30' West

49° 35' North, 55° 25' West

DFO advises that the Snow Crab fishery has been extended for NAFO Division 3K and will now close at 2000 hours on the dates listed below for the following Crab Fishing Areas:

Areas 3B, 3BC, 3C, 3D, and Area 4: Closing July 28, 2023

DFO advises that the Snow crab fishery has been extended for all Crab Fishing Areas (CFAs) in NAFO sub-Division 3Ps (10A, 10B, 11S, 11W and 11E). The fishery in this area will now close at 2000 hours on July 28, 2023.

DFO advises anglers that due to extremely high water temperatures and/or low water levels, the following rivers in Salmon Fishing Areas 2, 4 and 5 will be restricted to morning angling only effective one hour after sunset on Tuesday, July 18, 2023.

During this period, angling is permitted from one hour before sunrise to 10:00 am each day and will be closed to angling from 10:01 am to one hour before sunrise on the following day.

The rivers will reopen as conditions improve. Please refer the 2023 Angler's Guide for further information on the environmental protocol.

DFO advises that the capelin fishery for vessels using fixed gear (tuck, bar seine and trap) will open on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at 06:00 hours in the following areas: 

White Bay (Capelin Fishing Area 3) 

• Cape Fox to Hampden, Inclusive
 
Harvesters are reminded that the fishery must be open for 24 hours before any Capelin can be removed from any fixed Gear. 

Licence conditions can be obtained through DFO’s National On-line Licencing System.

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans advises harvesters of the following management measures for the 2+3K <65 FG Greenland Halibut Fisheries starting July 21, 2023:

• The fishery will now be administered through trip limits.

• Trip limits for 2+3K will increase to 50,000 lbs. round weight.

• The number of nets permitted to be used will increase by 40 per depth zone.

• New conditions will be available through the National Online Licensing System after July 20, 2023.

The issuance and acceptance of these licence conditions is not a guarantee that sufficient quota will be available to harvest the amount on the licence condition. The Department will continue to closely monitor this fishery and closures may occur on short notice, which will be communicated through Notice to Fishers.

DFO advises that the commercial Scallop fishery in Area 9 (Inner St. Mary's Bay) in NAFO Division 3L will open at 0600 hours Tuesday, July 18, 2023 for harvesters in the following Vessel Class: C4701.

Harvesters are reminded that information returns (logbooks) are a requirement for this fishery.

DFO reminds harvesters that the Bait Season for herring in Herring Fishing Areas 3 to 10 and that portion of Herring Fishing Area 11 from Point Crewe to Western Head, Hare Bay is closed from July 15 to August 15, 2023.

Harvesters are reminded that all bait nets must be removed from the water.
