Fisheries and Oceans Canada advises that the details of the 2025 management measures and quota levels for the Snow Crab fishery in Newfoundland and Labrador are now available at:

DFO wishes to advise lobster harvesters that a declaration is required for Lobster Fishing Area (LFA) 11W for the 2025 season.

Please note a declaration is only required if you intend to fish in LFA 11W (that portion of Lobster Fishing Area 11 west of Western Head, Hare Bay).

All LFA 11 harvesters that do not declare their intention to fish in LFA 11W will be issued a license to fish in LFA 11E (that portion of Lobster Fishing Area 11 located east of Western Head, Hare Bay).

PLEASE NOTE:

Declarations must be requested through the National Online Licensing System (NOLS).

Declarations must be received by close of business day Thursday, April 3, 2025.

DFO advises that 3Ps fixed gear herring fisheries in Placentia Bay will close at 1200 hours, Wednesday March 19, 2025, for barr/tuck seine.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2025-012 has been revoked and Variation Order 2025-013 comes into force at 1100 hours on March 19, 2025.

DFO wishes to advise inshore crab harvesters in Crab Fishing Areas 3B (White Bay) and 3C (Green Bay) in NAFO Division 3K that applications for CFA 3BC are now available.

Harvesters can obtain an application by contacting the area licencing center by phone or e-mail. Applications can also be requested from the National Online Licencing System (NOLS).

Applications must be returned by close of business on March 7, 2025.

DFO reminds harvesters that fixed gear herring fisheries in Herring Fishing Areas (HFAs) 7 and 8 for fixed gear barr and tuck seine are closed.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2024-333 has been revoked and Variation Order 2025-012 comes into effect on February 26 2025.

DFO advises that the directed cod fishery in NAFO Sub-Division 3Ps will close to all fleets at 2400 hours on Friday, February 28, 2025.

All fishing gear must be removed from the water by closing time.

This closure applies to all vessel classes.

Fish harvesters are reminded to return their Inshore Fixed Gear Logbooks after the conclusion of fishing operations.

DFO advises that the Unit 2 Redfish fishery will close to the less than 65 feet mobile gear fleet based in 4R3Pn, Vessel Classes C405, C406, C422, C437,and C440, on Wednesday, February 26 2025 at 2000 hours. The quota for this fleet is expected to be taken by closing time.

DFO advises that at the request of industry the Mobile Gear (Purse Seine) Herring fishery will reopen on Sunday, February 23, 2025 at 0600 hours in Notre Dame Bay (Herring Fishing Area 4).

Fisheries and Oceans Canada advises that the Herring fishery in St. Mary's Bay, Herring Fishing Area 09 and Placentia Bay, Herring Fishing Area 10, for mobile gear vessels in Group B will close at 1600 hours on February 21, 2025. The TAC has been reached.
