LOBSTER FISHING OPENING IN LFA 12

DFO advises that Lobster Fishing Area 12 will open at 0600 hours on April 16, 2022 and close at 2000 hours on June 25, 2022.

Harvesters are reminded that they are not permitted to retrieve fishing gear or possess lobsters during the initial 48 hour gear-setting period after the opening date.

Harvesters are also reminded they are permitted to harvest bait for the lobster fishery as per the conditions of their bait licence.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Regions gives notice that Variation Order 2021-301 has been revoked and Variation Order 2022-028 comes into effect on April 14, 2022.

DFO advises that the Halibut fishery in NAFO Division 4R, for the Quebec Region Fleet (vessel classes A901 - A948) will open at 0500 hours EDT April 14, 2022 and close 2359 hours EDT May 14, 2022.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2022-027 has been revoked and Variation Order 2022-030 comes into effect on April 14, 2022.

2022 SNOW CRAB SEASON OPENING FOR 3K

Fisheries and Oceans Canada advises that the Snow Crab fishery in 3K will open the following dates:

Crab Management Area 4 will open at 6:00 a.m. on Monday April 11, 2022 for the purpose of travelling to the fishing ground. Fish harvesters are reminded that they are not authorized to set Crab traps until 72 hours after the Snow Crab fishery season has opened. Therefore, any setting of Crab traps or possession of Crab before 6:00AM on Thursday, April 14 is prohibited.

Crab Management Area 3D will open at 12:00 am (midnight) on Thursday, April 14, 2022 for the purpose of travelling to the fishing ground. Fish harvesters are reminded that they are not authorized to set Crab traps until 6 hours after the Snow Crab fishery season has opened. Therefore, any setting of Crab traps or possession of Crab before 6:00 am on Monday April 14, 2022 is prohibited.

Crab Management Area 3A will open at 12:00 am (midnight) on Monday, April 18, 2022 for the purpose of travelling to the fishing ground. Fish harvesters are reminded that they are not authorized to set Crab traps until 6 hours after the Snow Crab fishery season has opened. Therefore, any setting of Crab traps or possession of Crab before 6:00 am on Monday April 18, 2022 is prohibited.

Crab Management Areas 3B, 3C and 3BC will open at 12:00 am (midnight) on Sunday, April 24, 2022 for the purpose of travelling to the fishing ground. Fish harvesters are reminded that they are not authorized to set Crab traps until 6 hours after the Snow Crab fishery season has opened. Therefore, any setting of Crab traps or possession of Crab before 6:00 am on Sunday April 24, 2022 is prohibited.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2022-019 has been revoked and Variation Order 2022-024 comes into effect on April 9, 2022.

Seal Fishery Open - April 8, 2022

DFO reminds Newfoundland and Labrador Seal harvesters that the seal fishery re-opened in Sealing Areas 4 to 23 and Sealing Areas 25 to 27 at 0600 hours on April 8, 2022.

The fishery is open for Front Longliners, Areas 5 to 8 Small Boats and Speed Boats, all Area 4 vessels and for Gulf Longliners, Gulf Small Boats, Gulf Speed Boats as well as Personal Use. This includes License Classes N100 to N106, N200 to N204, N300 to N302, and N400-N401.  Seal harvesters having a homeport located between Big Brook to Noddy Bay inclusive, operating from vessels less than 40 feet, License Classes N203 and N204, that a portion of Sealing Area 5 also opened for Seals at 0600 hours on April 8, 2022.

Commercial Seal harvesters based in the Front have access to the Gulf and commercial Seal harvesters based in the Gulf have access to the Front.

Skate Fishery Opening in Sub-Division 3Ps for Mobile Gear

DFO advises that the Skate Fishery in NAFO Sub-Division 3Ps, for mobile gear vessels less than 65 feet, will open at 0600 hours on Saturday April 9, 2022.

Incidental catch provisions for this fishery are outlined in harvesters' species-specific and 2022 Groundfish General Licence conditions. Harvesters are reminded that while directing for skate in 3Ps using mobile-gear, all by-catch of cod will be attributed to your seasonal Individual Quota/CAP and when a harvester has caught their seasonal CAP for cod, either from directed catch or by-catch, you must cease fishing for all species of groundfish in 3Ps for the remainder of the year.
