DFO advises that the capelin fishery for vessels using fixed gear (tuck, bar seine and trap) will open on July 19, 2025 at 0600 hours in the following area:

North Head to Dog Bay Point (Capelin Fishing Area 4)

Harvesters are reminded that the fishery must be open for 24 hours before any Capelin can be removed from any fixed Gear.

Licence conditions can be obtained through DFO’s National On-line Licencing System.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Regions gives notice that Variation Order 2025-145 has been revoked and Variation Order 2025-147 comes into effect on July 19, 2025.

CAPELIN FIXED GEAR FISHERY OPENING IN A PORTION OF AREA 14

DFO advises that the Capelin fixed gear fishery using traps and bar seine (including modified bar seine known as "tuck seine"), for the large vessel fleet (less than 65 feet (19.8m)) in the following area will open at 0600 hours on July 19, 2025:

Capelin Fishing Area 14 from the Quebec/Labrador border, north to Cape Charles.

DFO advises anglers that due to extremely high water temperatures and/or low water levels, the following rivers in Salmon Fishing Areas 3, 4, 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, and 14A will be restricted to morning angling only, effective one hour after sunset on July 17, 2025.

During this period, angling is permitted from one hour before sunrise to 10:00 am each day and will be closed to angling from 10:01 am to one hour before sunrise on the following day.

The rivers will reopen as conditions improve. Please refer to the 2025 Angler's Guide for further information on the environmental protocol.

Changes to the 2+3K <65 Fixed Gear Greenland Halibut (Turbot) Fishery

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans advises harvesters of the following management measures for the 2+3K <65 FG Greenland Halibut Fisheries starting July 17, 2025:
•    The fishery will now be administered through trip limits.
•    Trip limits for 2+3K will increase to 50,000 lbs. round weight.
•    The number of nets permitted to be used will increase by 40 per depth zone.
•    New conditions will be available through the National Online Licensing System after July 16, 2025.
•    Any participants that were not issued an initial permit can now request license conditions to participate in the 2+3K fishery.

To request these license conditions, contact David Small at david.small@dfo-mpo.gc.ca

The issuance and acceptance of these licence conditions is not a guarantee that sufficient quota will be available to harvest the amount on the licence condition.

The Department will continue to closely monitor this fishery. Closures may occur on short notice which will be communicated through Notice to Fishers.
