DFO reminds the Public that the Newfoundland and Labrador Recreational Groundfish fishery is closed for the 2025 season. 

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Orders 2025-086 and 2025-210 have been revoked and Variation Orders 2025-279 and 2025-280 come into effect at 2359 hours on December 31, 2025.

Public Notices are now available online in the Fisheries Notices section of the DFO Newfoundland and Labrador Region webpage at Newfoundland and Labrador Region.

DFO reminds the Public that the Newfoundland and Labrador Recreational Groundfish fishery is closed for the 2025 season. 

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Orders 2025-086 and 2025-210 have been revoked and Variation Orders 2025-279 and 2025-280 come into effect at 2359 hours on December 31, 2025.

DFO advises that the Atlantic Halibut hook and line (long line) fishery in NAFO Divisions 4R ONLY, for fixed gear vessels less than 65 feet based in Western NL and Southern Labrador that elected to fish in Period 5, for Vessel class A293, will close at 2000 hours on December 26, 2025.

GREENLAND HALIBUT (TURBOT) FISHERY CLOSING IN NAFO DIVISION 4RST

DFO advises that the Greenland Halibut (turbot) fixed gear fishery in NAFO Division 4RST, in all water depths will close for vessels less than 65 feet based in NAFO Divisions 4R at 2000 hours on Sunday, December 14, 2025.

DFO reminds harvesters that all gear must be removed from the water by closing time.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2025-214 has been revoked and Variation Order 2025-283 comes into effect on December 12, 2025.
