3PS COMMERCIAL DIVING FISHERY PILOT PROJECT

DFO advises that the portion of Scallop Fishing Area 11 (Fortune Bay) from Dantzic Point to Point Rosie will open to a commercial harvest of scallop as a continuation of the 2017 pilot project at 0600 hours on September 5, 2025 and will close at 2000 hours on November 13, 2025.

Please note additional reporting requirements for this fishery in the licence conditions.

Please submit a request through the National Online Licensing System to indicate your interest and to receive licence conditions.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2025-228 has been revoked and Variation Order 2025-240 comes into effect on September 5, 2025.

2025 Homewaters Bluefin Tuna Fishery Closing

DFO advises that the Bluefin Tuna fishery in NAFO Divisions 3KLNOP for all vessels will close at 2359 hours on Sunday, August 31, 2025.

Salmon Angling Season Closures

DFO reminds anglers of the following Salmon angling season closures:

Insular Newfoundland:

Zones 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14A will close to Salmon angling on September 7, 2025.

Fall catch and release Salmon angling is permitted on the Lower Humber River, Gander River, and Lower Exploits Rivers from September 8, 2025, to October 7, 2025. Retention of Salmon is not permitted. Catch-and-Release angling as follows:

- main stem of Lower Exploits River, from Stoney Brook to river mouth;

- main stem of Lower Humber River, from Boom Siding (outlet of Deer Lake) to lower end of Shellbird Island;

- main stem of Gander River from outlet on Gander Lake to river mouth.

- Angling not permitted on any tributaries of these rivers;

- Daily catch-and-release bag limit of three Salmon;

Labrador:

Zones 1, 2, and 14B will close to Salmon angling on September 15, 2025.

Anglers are reminded to complete their Salmon angling log. Angling log data is an important tool in the stock assessment process. If you purchased a license and did not fish, it is important to let us know. If you did fish please record your daily angling activity as accurately as possible. Check the appropriate box and submit your form.

Trout Angling Season Closures

DFO reminds anglers of the following Trout angling season closures:

- Zone 1 (Insular Newfoundland) closed to Trout angling on September 7, 2025. Brown and Rainbow trout angling in selected areas on the Avalon Peninsula and East Coast areas will continue until October 7, 2025.

- Zones 2 and 4 closed to Trout angling on September 7, 2025.

- Zones 3, 5 and 6 closed to Trout angling on September 15, 2025.

- These closures include the Churchill River Drainage Basin Watershed which closes on September 7, 2025 and the Eagle Plateau Management Zone which closes on September 15, 2025.

3Ps Area 11 Scallop Fishery Opening

DFO advises 3Ps scallop harvesters that the portion of Scallop Fishing Area 11 North of 47°00’N will open at 0600 hours on September 15, 2025, and close at 2000 hours on December 31, 2025.

Please note that scallop dragging is not permitted in these areas in water depths less than 5 fathoms.

Fish harvesters are reminded that scallop dragging remains closed in water depths less than 30 fathoms in that portion of SFA 11 from Dantzic Point to Point Rosie (Scallop dive only area near Garnish) and that portion of Scallop Fishing Area 11, at Little River beyond a straight line formed between the following coordinates: 47° 46’ 40.24” North, 55° 48’ 34.81” West and 47° 46’ 32.92” North, 55° 48’ 29.09” West.

Fish harvesters are reminded that fishing is not permitted within the Saint Pierre et Miquelon Maritime Zone.

Logbook submissions, mandatory hail-out and hail-ins and landing authorizations remain in effect. These requirements are outlined in licence conditions.
