DFO advises that the mobile gear herring (purse seine) fishery for 3L (Herring Fishing Areas 7-8) Conception Bay / Southern Shore will close at 2200 hours on Tuesday, April 11, 2023.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2023-025 has been revoked and Variation Order 2023-026 comes into effect at 1700 hours on April 11, 2023.

DFO advises that the Atlantic halibut fishery in NAFO sub-Division 3Pn, for vessels less than 65 feet using hook and line gear, will close at 2000 hours April 12, 2023 due to incidental catch of Cod exceeding the established protocols.

DFO advises anglers that the winter trout angling season for Zone 1 (Insular Newfoundland) closes on April 15, 2023. Angling for trout in tidal waters is still permitted. However, the daily bag limit applies.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2023-023 has been revoked and Variation Order 2023-025 comes into effect at 1000 hours on April 10, 2023.

Fisheries and Oceans Canada advises that the Snow Crab fishery in 3K will open on the following dates:

Crab Management Area 4 will open at 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday April 11, 2023 for the purpose of travelling to the fishing ground. Fish harvesters are reminded that they are not authorized to set Crab traps until 72 hours after the Snow Crab fishery season has opened. Therefore, any setting of Crab traps or possession of Crab before 6:00AM on Friday April 14, 2023 is prohibited.

Crab Management Areas 3A and 3D will open at 12:00 am (midnight) on Friday April 14, 2023 for the purpose of travelling to the fishing ground. Fish harvesters are reminded that they are not authorized to set Crab traps until 6 hours after the Snow Crab fishery season has opened. Therefore, any setting of Crab traps or possession of Crab before 6:00 am on Friday April 14, 2023 is prohibited.

Crab Management Area 3BC will open at 6:00 am on Saturday, April 22, 2023 for the purpose of travelling to the fishing ground. Fish harvesters are reminded that they are not authorized to set Crab traps until 24 hours after the Snow Crab fishery season has opened. Therefore, any setting of Crab traps or possession of Crab before 6:00 am on Sunday April 23, 2023 is prohibited.

Crab Management Areas 3B and 3C will open at 12:00 am (midnight) on Sunday April 23, 2023 for the purpose of travelling to the fishing ground. Fish harvesters are reminded that they are not authorized to set Crab traps until 6 hours after the Snow Crab fishery season has opened. Therefore, any setting of Crab traps or possession of Crab before 6:00 am on Sunday April 23, 2023 is prohibited.
