DFO advises that the Snow crab fishery has been extended for Crab Fishing Areas (CFAs 10A, 10B, 11S, 11W) in NAFO sub-Division 3Ps.  The fishery in these areas will now close at 2000 hours on Friday July 19, 2024.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2024-118 has been revoked and Variation Order 2024-137 comes into effect on July 13, 2024.

Soft-Shell Closed Areas for Crab and Shrimp in NAFO Division 2J North

DFO advises that in accordance with the soft-shell protocol, the following grids in Crab Fishing Area 2J North in NAFO Divisions 2HJ will close to fishing Snow Crab and Northern Shrimp at midnight on Sunday, July 14, 2024 due to a high incidence of soft-shell crab:

Grid C 22
55° 00' North, 56° 50' West;
55° 00' North, 56° 40' West;
54° 50' North, 56° 40' West;
54° 50' North, 56° 50' West; and,
55° 00' North, 56° 50' West;

Grid C 23
55° 00' North, 56° 40' West;
55° 00' North, 56° 30' West;
54° 50' North, 56° 30' West;
54° 50' North, 56° 40' West; and,
55° 00' North, 56° 40' West;

These grids will be closed to Snow crab fishing for the remainder of the year. Harvesters should note that all gear in this grid must be removed immediately. Gear must be hauled and not reset on your next fishing trip.

The closure for Northern shrimp is in effect for 60 days, and will re-open on September 14, 2024, if the shrimp fishery is open at that time.

Salmon River Closures in Salmon Fishing Area 2, 4, 12 and 13

DFO advises anglers that due to extremely high water temperatures and/or low water levels, the following rivers in Salmon Fishing Areas (SFA) 2, 4, 12 and 13 will be restricted to morning angling only effective one hour after sunset on Thursday, July 11, 2024.

During this period, angling is permitted from one hour before sunrise to 10:00 am each day and will be closed to angling from 10:01 am to one hour before sunrise on the following day.

The rivers will reopen as conditions improve. Please refer to the 2024 Angler's Guide for further information on the environmental protocol.

DFO advises anglers that due to extremely high water temperatures and/or low water levels, the following rivers in Salmon Fishing Areas (SFA) 4 and 5 will be restricted to morning angling only effective one hour after sunset on Wednesday, July 10, 2024.
