DFO advises that the 3Pn portion of the Unit 2 Redfish fishery will close for all Vessel Classes on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at 2000 hrs.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Regions gives notice that Variation Order 2024-208 has been revoked and Variation Order 2024-279 comes into effect on October 12, 2024.

2024 REMINDER TO RETURN LOGBOOKS

DFO wishes to remind harvesters that Section 61 of the Fisheries Act requires all fishing logs to be completed and submitted to DFO. Please refer to the requirements set out in Schedule 4 of the 2024 commercial fishing licence.

Instructions on how to complete a general log can be found with examples at the beginning of the general logbook.  For further information and questions, harvesters can contact the Email as per Fisher Homeports below.

Logbooks must be returned to the appropriate Area Office according to your homeport.

4RST ATLANTIC HALIBUT – FOURTH SEASONAL OPENING DATE FOR THE NL INSHORE FIXED-GEAR FLEET

DFO advises that the Atlantic Halibut hook and line (long line) fishery in NAFO Divisions 4RST, for fixed gear vessels less than 65 feet based in Western NL and Southern Labrador that elected to fish in Period 4, will open at 0600 hours on Monday, October 14, 2024. This fishery is open to Vessel class A291 and will close at 2000 hours on November 3, 2024.

DFO reminds fish harvesters that logbooks for this fishery are mandatory and must be completed in full and submitted as per the conditions of licence.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Regions gives notice that Variation Order 2024-270 has been revoked and Variation Order 2024-278 comes into effect on October 11, 2024.

Reopening of the inshore Northern cod fishery for 3KL-based harvesters and 2J-based season extension

DFO advises that the 2J3KL Northern cod fishery will re-open for 3KL-based inshore harvesters to fish in NAFO Divisions 3KL on Friday, October 11, 2024 at 0600 hours for vessel classes A295, A296 and A283.

There is approximately 180 t remaining for 3KL-based harvesters. The fishery will be closely monitored to ensure the total harvest remains within the 3KL-based inshore fleet allocation, and a closure may occur with limited notice.

DFO remains committed to safety at sea and harvesters are reminded to closely monitor marine forecasts. If a harvester is unable to retrieve their gear by the close time due to safety concerns, they are advised to contact their local C&P detachment.

Harvesters are reminded that you are not authorized to set gear prior to the fishery opening.

DFO also advises that the season for the 2J-based inshore fleet, vessel class A292, will be extended to Saturday, October 26 at 1800 hours, and new conditions will be available soon.

DFO advises that the 2J3KL Northern cod fishery will open for 3KL-based inshore fixed-gear harvesters to fish in NAFO Divisions 3KL on Friday, October 4, 2024 at 1200 hours for vessel classes A295, A296 and A283, and will close Saturday, October 5, 2024 at 1600 hours.

There is approximately 250 t remaining for 3KL-based harvesters.

Harvesters are reminded that you are not authorized to set gear prior to the fishery opening. 

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Orders 2024-271 and 2024-272 have been revoked and Variation Orders 2024-273 and 2024-274 comes into effect on October 4, 2024.
