DFO advises that the Capelin purse seine fishery for mobile gear vessels, less than and greater than 65', in Capelin Fishing Areas 13 and 14 (NAFO Division 4R) will close at 2000 hours on August 9, 2024.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2024-157 has been revoked and Variation Order 2024-199 comes into effect on August 9, 2024.

CAPELIN FIXED GEAR FISHERY CLOSING IN AREAS 13 AND 14

DFO advises that the Capelin fixed gear fishery using traps and bar seine (including modified bar seine known as "tuck seine"), for vessels less than 65 feet (19.8m) in Capelin Fishing Areas 13 and 14 will close at 2000 hours on August 9, 2024.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2024-174 has been revoked and Variation Order 2024-198 comes into effect on August 9, 2024.

Salmon River Closures in Salmon Fishing Areas 7 and 14A

DFO advises anglers of the following closure to all angling until further notice, effective one hour after sunset on August 8, 2024:

Salmon Fishing Area 7

DFO advises anglers that due to extremely high water temperatures and/or low water levels, the following rivers in Salmon Fishing Area (SFA) 14A will be restricted to morning angling only, effective one hour after sunset on Thursday, August 8, 2024.

During this period, angling is permitted from one hour before sunrise to 10:00 am each day and will be closed to angling from 10:01 am to one hour before sunrise on the following day.

The rivers will reopen as conditions improve. Please refer to the 2024 Angler's Guide for further information on the environmental protocol.

CALL FOR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST - 3Ps SCALLOP NORTH BED FISHERY PERMIT HOLDERS

DFO is seeking ‘Expressions of Interest’ from eligible scallop harvesters interested in applying for access to a limited amount of remaining scallop quota in the North Bed.

Eligible fish harvesters must contact DFO through the National Online Licensing System (NOLS) to express their interest in obtaining a permit and if required, a draw will be conducted.

Please note that NEW Conditions of Licence (COLs) will be issued to eligible recipients that indicate a specified Catch Limit.

Your NOLS request must be received by 1600 hours, August 12, 2024, in order to be included in the process.
Requests received after this time will not be accepted.

The North Bed is defined as that portion of Scallop Fishing Area 11, bounded by a line connecting the following coordinates:

46 degrees 30.0 minutes North latitude, 57 degrees 28 minutes West longitude to
46 degrees 30.0 minutes North latitude, 56 degrees 46 minutes West longitude along the Canada/France boundary to
46 degrees 23.0 minutes North latitude, 56 degrees 29 minutes West longitude to
46 degrees 14.0 minutes North latitude, 56 degrees 29 minutes West longitude to
46 degrees 14.0 minutes North latitude, 57 degrees 28 minutes West longitude to
46 degrees 30.0 minutes North latitude, 57 degrees 28 minutes West longitude.

Fish harvesters are reminded that fishing is not permitted in the Middle Bed, Southern Bed, or the Core Area. These areas are defined in your licence conditions.

Fish harvesters are reminded that they must have at-sea observer coverage services arranged before commencing fishing.
