DFO advises that the Fixed Gear (Barr/Tuck Seine) Herring fishery will close on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at 2200 hours in Conception Bay and Southern Shore (Herring Fishing Area 7 and 8).

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region, gives notice that Variation Order 2025-026 has been revoked and Variation Order 2025-031 comes into force at 1800 hours on April 8, 2025.

DFO advises that the fishery for Atlantic Halibut in NAFO Division 3NO, for vessel class C897 (Maritimes) using longline will open on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at 0600 hours.

DFO advises that the mobile gear herring (purse seine) fishery for Bonavista Bay (Herring Fishing Area 5) will close at 2000 hours on Monday, April 7, 2025.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Regions gives notice that Variation Order 2025-028 has been revoked and Variation Order 2025-029 comes into force at 1600 hours on April 7, 2025.

DFO reminds harvesters that the following Marine Conservation Areas remain closed:

Hatton Basin Conservation Area

Hopedale Saddle Closure

Hawke Channel Closure

Funk Island Deep Closure

Northeast Newfoundland Slope Closure

Division 3O Coral Closure

Gilbert Bay Marine Protected Area

Eastport Marine Protected Area

Laurentian Channel Marine Protected Area

These areas have varying fisheries restrictions/prohibitions.

Fisheries and Oceans Canada advises that the Snow Crab fishery will open at 12:00 am (midnight) on Thursday April 10, 2025 for the purpose of travelling to the fishing ground for the following areas:

- Outside of 8 mile
- Bay of Islands
- Bay St. George
- 12A
- 12B
- 12C
- 12D
- 12E
- 12F
- 12G
- 12H

Fish harvesters are reminded that they are not authorized to set Crab traps until 6 hours after the Snow Crab fishery season has opened. Therefore, any setting of Crab traps or possession of Crab before 6:00 am on Thursday April 10, 2025 is prohibited.

Crab Management Areas 10B and 11S will open at 6:00 a.m. on Monday April 7, 2025 for the purpose of travelling to the fishing ground. Fish harvesters are reminded that they are not authorized to set Crab traps until 72 hours after  the Snow Crab fishery season has opened. Therefore, any setting of Crab traps or possession of Crab before 6:00AM on Thursday, April 10, 2025 is prohibited.

Crab Management Areas 10A, 11E and 11W will open at 12:00 am (midnight) on Thursday, April 10, 2025 for the purpose of travelling to the fishing ground. Fish harvesters are reminded that they are not authorized to set Crab traps until 6 hours after the Snow Crab fishery season has opened. Therefore, any setting of Crab traps or possession of Crab before 6:00 am on Thursday, April 10, 2025 is prohibited.

Fish harvesters are reminded that they are not authorized to set Crab traps until 72 hours after the Snow Crab fishery season has opened. Therefore, any setting of Crab traps or possession of Crab before 6:00 am on Thursday April 10, 2025 is prohibited.

Therefore, any setting of Crab traps or possession of Crab before 6:00 am on Thursday April 10, 2025 is prohibited.

Crab Management Areas 3A and 3D will open at 12:00 am (midnight) on Thursday April 10, 2025 for the purpose of travelling to the fishing ground. Fish harvesters are reminded that they are not authorized to set Crab traps until 6 hours after the Snow Crab fishery season has opened. Therefore, any setting of Crab traps or possession of Crab before 6:00 am on Thursday April 10, 2025 is prohibited.

Crab Management Area 3BC will open at 6:00 am on Saturday, April 12, 2025 for the purpose of travelling to the fishing ground. Fish harvesters are reminded that they are not authorized to set Crab traps until 24 hours after the Snow Crab fishery season has opened. Therefore, any setting of Crab traps or possession of Crab before 6:00 am on Sunday April 13, 2025 is prohibited.

Crab Management Areas 3B and 3C will open at 12:00 am (midnight) on Sunday April 20, 2025 for the purpose of travelling to the fishing ground. Fish harvesters are reminded that they are not authorized to set Crab traps until 6 hours after the Snow Crab fishery season has opened. Therefore, any setting of Crab traps or possession of Crab before 6:00 am on Sunday April 20, 2025 is prohibited.

DFO advises that the Herring fixed gear fishery will open at 0600 hours Sunday, April 6, 2025 for Herring Fishing Area 11 - Fortune Bay (Barr seines, gillnets and trap nets)

Fish harvesters are reminded that logbooks are mandatory in these Fixed Gear herring fisheries.
