DFO advises that the fishery for Atlantic Halibut in NAFO Division 3NO for vessel classes A353 (Maritimes) using longline will open on Friday, June 03, 2022 at 0600 hours.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2022-039 has been revoked and Variation Order 2022-068 comes into effect on June 03, 2022.

DFO advises that the Atlantic halibut fishery in NAFO sub-Division 3Pn, for vessels less than 65 feet using hook and line gear, will reopen at 0600 hours on June 6, 2022 and close on June 10, 2022 at 2000 hours.

DFO advises that the Greenland Halibut fishery in NAFO Division 4R for Quebec-based vessel class A213 will open at 0430 hours EDT June 3, 2022 and close at 1700 hours EDT on October 31, 2022.

Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) advises the public of the closure to harvesting of all bivalve shellfish (including Arctic wedge calms, Atlantic razor clams, Atlantic surf clams, bay quahaugs, northern propeller clams, ocean quahaugs, softshell clam, Stimpson's surf clams, bay mussels, blue mussel, horse mussels, American oysters, bay scallops, Iceland scallops, purple hinge rock scallop, northern moon snails, waved whelks, Stimpson's whelks, except sea scallops) for recreational or commercial purposes effective 1800hrs Tuesday, May 31, 2022 for the that portion of Tommy's Arm bounded by the shoreline and a series of straight lines connecting the following points in the order listed:

49.47304 N 55.75942 W, to a point at  

49.46774 N 55.76196 W, then along the shoreline to a point at 

49.46464 N 55.78563 W, to a point at 

49.47014 N 55.78963 W, then along the shoreline to a point at 

49.47103 N 55.77843 W, to a point at 

49.47234 N 55.77005, then along the shoreline back to the point of commencement.

DFO advises harvesters that the less than 65 ft. fixed gear Greenland halibut (Turbot) fishery in NAFO Divisions 3LMNO will open on Friday, June 3rd, 2022 at 06:00 hours.

Fish Harvesters are required to hail-out to an At Sea Observer Company 24 hours prior to leaving port.

License conditions will be available through DFO's National On-line Licensing System for those fish harvesters who submitted an 

Expression of Interest and are eligible to participate in the NAFO Divisions 3LMNO fixed gear Greenland halibut (Turbot) fishery.

DFO advises that the fixed gear herring (gillnet/trap) fishery for White Bay, Notre Dame Bay, Bonavista Bay, Trinity Bay, Conception Bay, the Southern Shore and St. Mary's Bay, (Herring Fishing Areas 3-9) will close at 2000 hours on Tuesday, June 14, 2022.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2022-043 has been revoked and Variation Order 2022-065 comes into effect on May 31, 2022.

Insular Newfoundland - June 1 to September 7, 2022

Labrador - June 15 to September 15, 2022

DFO advises that the Sea Cucumber fishery in NAFO Sub-division 3Ps for both the Western and the Eastern beds will open at 0600 hours on Wednesday, June 1, 2022.

Licence conditions can be obtained through the DFO National On-line Licencing System.

PLEASE NOTE: The 3Ps Sea cucumber fishery is subject to a mandatory Dockside Monitoring Program (DMP).

DFO advises that the 2+3KLMNO Mobile Gear Greenland halibut (Turbot) fishery will remain open for vessel classes C175 for harvesters with a valid permit and conditions of licence. 

Conditions of licence are available through the National Online Licensing System (NOLS). 

As per your 2022 conditions of licence, a daily hail is required. Hails must be sent to Hails65@dfo-mpo.gc.ca.

DFO advises that the Atlantic Halibut fishery in NAFO sub-Division 3Pn, for vessels less than 65 feet using hook and line gear, will close at 2000 hours on May 29, 2022. The reason for the closure is that the available harvesting cap for this fishery is about to be reached. Fish harvesters are reminded that all fishing gear must be removed from the water by closing time.
