HERRING FIXED GEAR FISHERY CLOSING IN PORTIONS OF AREA 14

DFO reminds harvesters that the Herring fixed gear fishery (gillnet, trap, bar seine, including tuck seine) in portions of Herring Fishing Area 14 (Cape St. Gregory to Cape Bauld) will close at 0600 June 15, 2022 and will re-open on August 1, 2022 at 0001 hours.

The portions of Herring Fishing Area 14 that will be closed are:

- Ingornachoix Bay and Hawkes Bay, inside a straight line drawn from Spirity Point to the French shore site.

- Castor's Harbour, inside a straight line drawn from Castor Point to Long Point.

- Ste. Geneveive Bay and St. Barbe Bay inside a straight line drawn from Cape Ste. Geneveive to Anchor Point.

- The area inside a straight line drawn from The Arches to Cliffy Point, and the area within one nautical mile seaward of that line.

- Bonne Bay inside a straight line drawn from Western Head to Lobster Cove Point.

These closures are for the protection of migrating salmon.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2022-065 has been revoked and Variation Order 2022-078 comes into effect on June 15, 2022.

DFO reminds harvesters that the Herring fixed gear fishery (trap, gillnet, bar seine - including modified bar seine known as "tuck seine") in all of Herring Fishing Area 12, and portions of Herring Fishing Area 13 will close at 0600 hours June 15, 2022 and will re-open on August 1, 2022 at 0001 hours.

The areas that are closed are all of Fishing Area 12 (NAFO sub-Division 3Pn) and the following portions of Herring Fishing Area 13:

- That portion near Serpentine River, inside a straight line from Rope Cove, north to Coal River Head and the area within one nautical mile seaward of that line.

- That portion near Fox Island River, inside a straight line from Road Point, north to position 48 degree 43.392 minutes North, 58 degrees 39.634 minutes West and the area within one nautical mile seaward of that line.

- That portion from a line drawn due west of Cape Ray, north to a line drawn due west of Cape St. George.

DFO advises that the Unit 1 Redfish index fishery for the mobile gear fleet based in Western Newfoundland, will open at 0600 hours on June 15, 2022.

This fishery is open only to limited participation from the Western Newfoundland mobile gear fleet and fish harvesters involved should review their licence conditions for specific area restrictions.

Greenland Halibut (Turbot) Fixed Gear Fishery Opening for <65 ft. Fleet in NAFO Divisions 2J+3K

DFO advises harvesters that the less than 65 ft. fixed gear Greenland halibut (Turbot) fishery in NAFO Divisions 2J+3K will open on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at 06:00 hours.

Fish Harvesters are required to hail-out to an At Sea Observer Company 24 hours prior to leaving port.

License conditions will be available through DFO's National On-line Licensing System for those fish harvesters who submitted an Expression of Interest and are eligible to participate in the NAFO Divisions 2J+3K fixed gear Greenland halibut (Turbot) fishery.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Regions gives notice that Variation Order 2022-069 has been revoked and Variation Order 2022-077 comes into effect on June 11, 2022.

CAPELIN FIXED GEAR FISHERY OPENING IN A PORTION OF AREA 14

DFO advises that the Capelin fixed gear fishery using traps and bar seine (including modified bar seine known as "tuck seine"), for vessels less than 65 feet (19.8m) from Broom Point to Point Riche will open at 0600 hours on June 11, 2022.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2022-072 has been revoked and Variation Order 2022-076 comes into effect on June 11, 2022.

All closing times are 2000 hours.

- LFA 14C July 15, 2022.

Buddy-up Applications Available for Capelin Harvesters in a Portion of 3K

DFO wishes to advise fixed gear capelin license holders with homeports in Green Bay and the portion of White Bay from Hampden to Cape John that the 2022 buddy-up applications are available.

Harvesters can request these forms by submitting a request through NOLS Submitting a Request and Checking the Request Status: Step-by-Step

-   Select Submit Request

-   Select Request Type - Partnership/Pooling/Buddy Up

-   Enter "Capelin Buddy-up Application" in the comments section

Please note that Buddy-up Applications MUST BE SUBMITTED AND APPROVED each year PRIOR to the start of the 2022 capelin fishing season.

DFO advises that the 3Ps Greenland Halibut (Turbot) fishery for vessels less than and greater than 65' using gillnets and hook and line gear, will open at 0600 hours on Saturday, June 11, 2022.

DFO will monitor fishing activity and will close the fishery if the incidental catch of Atlantic halibut exceeds the established protocols.
