DFO advises that the Capelin fixed gear fishery using traps and bar seine (including modified bar seine known as "tuck seine"), for the large vessel fleet (less than 65 feet (19.8m)) in the following areas will open at 0600 hours on June 12, 2024:

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2023-293 has been revoked and Variation Order 2024-078 comes into effect on June 12, 2024.

DFO advises that the commercial Scallop fishery in NAFO Divisions 2GHJ (Scallop Fishing Areas 1 and 2), will open at 0600 hours Saturday, June 15, 2024.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2024-047 has been revoked and Variation Order 2024-077 comes into effect on June 11, 2024.

DFO advises that the Snow Crab fishery will open at 0600 hours on Monday June 17, 2024 for NAFO divisions 2J North of 54 40. This fishery will close at 1800 hours on Saturday, August 31, 2024.

Fish Harvesters are also reminded that all designations to participate in this fishery are issued by the Nunatsiavut Government and Torngat Fisheries Cooperative Limited and must be in place prior to participating.

Fish harvesters are reminded that they are not authorized to set Crab traps until 72 hours after the Snow Crab fishery season has opened. Therefore, any setting of Crab traps or possession of Crab before 0600 hours on Thursday, June 20, 2024, is prohibited.

Licence fees and licence conditions are available through the National Online Licencing System (NOLS).

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2024-045 has been revoked and Variation Order 2024-076 comes into effect on June 11, 2024.

DFO advises that the 3Ps fixed gear Winter Flounder (Blackback) fishery for vessels less than 65' will open at 0600 hours on June 11, 2024.

Bycatch of Atlantic halibut is permitted, limits are outlined in General Groundfish Conditions.

DFO advises that the Atlantic Halibut hook and line (long line) fishery in NAFO Divisions 4RST, for fixed gear vessels less than 65 feet based in Western NL and Southern Labrador that elected to fish in Period 1, will open at 0600 hours on Monday, June 10, 2024. This fishery is open to vessel class A285 and will close at 2000 hours on June 23, 2024.

DFO reminds fish harvesters that logbooks for this fishery are mandatory and must be completed in full and submitted as per the conditions of licence.

Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) advises that the inshore Shrimp fishery in Shrimp Fishing Area (SFA) 6 for vessels less than 90 feet, based in NAFO Divisions 2J, 3K, 3L, and 4R will open at 6:00 AM on Thursday June 6, 2024.
