DFO advises that at the request of industry the Mobile Gear (Purse Seine) Herring fishery will reopen on Sunday, February 23, 2025 at 0600 hours in Notre Dame Bay (Herring Fishing Area 4).

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Regions gives notice that Variation Order 2025-006 has been revoked and Variation Order 2025-010 comes into effect on February 22, 2025.

Mobile Gear Herring Fishery Closing in HFA 9 and 10 for Group B Vessels

Fisheries and Oceans Canada advises that the Herring fishery in St. Mary's Bay, Herring Fishing Area 09 and Placentia Bay, Herring Fishing Area 10, for mobile gear vessels in Group B will close at 1600 hours on February 21, 2025. The TAC has been reached.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2025-006 has been revoked and Variation Order 2025-010 comes into effect at 1400 hours on February 21 2025.

2025 Applications for Crab Fishing Area 3BC in NAFO Division 3K are Available

DFO wishes to advise inshore crab harvesters in Crab Fishing Areas 3B (White Bay) and 3C (Green Bay) in NAFO Division 3K that applications for CFA 3BC are now available.

Harvesters can obtain an application by contacting the area licencing center by phone or e-mail. Applications can also be requested from the National Online Licencing System (NOLS).

Applications must be returned by close of business on March 7, 2025.

Inshore Snow Crab Buddy-up Application Available for Area 2J Harvesters

DFO wishes to advise Area 2J Inshore snow crab harvesters that the 2025 buddy-up application is available through the National Online Licensing System (NOLS) National Online Licensing System (NOLS) 

The Inshore snow crab application can be downloaded and submitted by following Step-By-Step Instructions through  Step-By-Step Instructions through NOLS

- Select Submit Request

- Select Request Type – Partnership/Pooling/Buddy Up

- Select Request Subtype – Snow Crab

- Select the Instructions link to open, and save or print the application

-Complete and sign the application (Fish Harvester A and Fish Harvester B must sign the same application.

-Save a Scanned copy or picture of the signed application

-Select Browse to attach the signed application to your request

-Select Submit

Any harvesters experiencing issues with accessing their online NOLS account, should contact the NOLS Support Line 1-877-535-7307 to have the issue resolved.

DFO wishes to advise Crab Harvesters that Area Selection applications are available for Crab Fishing Area 10A. Harvesters can request an application through the National Online Licensing System (NOLS) National Online Licensing System

Please note: Area Selection Applications only need to be completed if you are looking to move areas.

If you do not fill out the form you will remain in the area you were licensed for in 2024.

COMPLETED APPLICATIONS MUST BE UPLOADED TO THE NATIONAL ONLINE LICENCING SYSTEM AND RECEIVED BY CLOSE OF BUSINESS DAY FEBRUARY 21, 2025.

Submission of the application does not indicate approval. The final decision will be communicated through the National Online Licensing System (NOLS) via appropriate documentation.

DFO wishes to remind Crab Harvesters that Area Selection Applications are available for the following inshore Crab Fishing Areas 5A, 6A, and 6B. Harvesters can obtain an application by contacting the area licencing center or detachment office by phone or e-mail.

Applications can also be requested from the National Online Licencing System (NOLS).

Please note: Area Selection Applications only need to be completed if you are looking to move areas.

If you do not fill out the form you will remain in the area you were licensed for in 2024.

Seal Fishery Closing

DFO advises that both the Commercial fishery and Personal Use fishery for Harp seals and Hooded seals will close in all areas to all seal harvesters and all fleets based in Newfoundland and Labrador at 1800 hours on Saturday, March 1, 2025.

This is the annual closure to allow time for Seal whelping and nursing.

Re-opening dates for the 2025 season for these Seal fisheries, in both the Gulf and on the Front, will be announced at a later date.
