Salmon Rivers Closing in Zone 11

Notice description

DFO advises anglers that due to extremely high water temperatures and/or low water levels, the following rivers in Zones 11 will be restricted to morning angling only effective one hour after sunset on Thursday, July 28, 2022.

During this period, angling is permitted from one hour before sunrise to 10:00 am each day, and will be closed to angling from 10:01 am to one hour before sunrise on the following day.

The rivers will reopen as conditions improve. Please refer the 2022 Angler's Guide for further information on the environmental protocol.

Atlantic Halibut Opening in 4R for Quebec Region Fleet

DFO advises that the Atlantic halibut fishery in NAFO Division 4R, for vessels based in the Quebec Region, will open at 1200 hours EDT July 26, 2022 and close at 2359 hours EDT September 24, 2022. The specific vessel classes affected by these openings and closings are A520 and A701 to A900.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2022-126 has been revoked and Variation Order 2022-128 comes into effect at 1030 hours EDT on July 26, 2022.

SNOW CRAB SEASON EXTENSION FOR SELECT CRAB FISHING AREAS IN NAFO DIVISIONS 3LNO

DFO advises that the Snow crab fishery will now close at 2000 hours on Sunday, August 7, 2022 in select Crab Management Areas in NAFO Divisions 3LNO. This season extensions applies exclusively to the following Crab Management Areas:

Inshore:

• 6A (Inner and Outer)

• 6C

• 8A

Small Supplementary:

• NS

• MS

• 8B

• 8BxN

Fulltime and Large Supplementary:

• MS

• MS/EX

• 3L EX

• 3L 200

• 3N 200

• 3O 200

All other areas will close as scheduled at 2000 hours on July 31, 2022.

Harvesters are reminded that all fishing gear must be removed from the water by closing time.

4RST ATLANTIC HALIBUT - THIRD SEASONAL OPENING DATE FOR THE NL INSHORE FIXED-GEAR FLEET

DFO advises that the Atlantic Halibut hook and line (long line) fishery in NAFO Divisions 4RST, for fixed gear vessels less than 65 feet based in Western NL and Southern Labrador that elected to fish in Period 3, will open at 0600 hours on Monday, July 25, 2022. This fishery is open to vessel class A289 and will close at 2000 hours on August 7, 2022.

DFO reminds fish harvesters that logbooks for this fishery are mandatory and must be completed in full and submitted as per the conditions of licence.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variations Order 2022-125 has been revoked and Variation Order 2022-126 comes into effect on July 23, 2022.

Winter Flounder (Blackback) Opening in NAFO Divisions 3KL

DFO advises that the Winter flounder (Blackback) fishery in NAFO Divisions 3KL will open at 06:00 hours on July 24, 2022.

Fish harvesters should review their conditions to be familiar with by-catch provisions for this fishery. By-catch levels will be closely monitored and areas will be closed where cod by-catch is excessive.

Fish harvesters are advised that they cannot commence fishing until they have their 2022 2J3KL Stewardship Cod license conditions.

Licence conditions are available through the National Online Licencing System.

DFO advises harvesters that the Atlantic Halibut, Skate, Monkfish and Hake fishery in NAFO divisions 3NO will close at 2000 hours on July 21, 2022.

This closure applies to the following vessel classes fishing longline and gillnet:

A251, A254, A257, A260, A263, A266, A269, A272, A250, A253, A256, A259, A262, A265, A268, and A271.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variations Orders 2022-103 and 2022-112 have been revoked and Variation Orders 2022-124 and 2022-125 come into effect at 1600 hours on July 21, 2022.

This closure is necessary to allow for a review of catches and determine if the amount of Atlantic halibut quota that is remaining is sufficient to permit the continuation of a directed fishery. A further announcement will be made on these fisheries once the review of landings is completed.
