DFO advises that the commercial Scallop fishery in Area 9 (Inner St. Mary's Bay) in NAFO Division 3L will close at 2000 hours Thursday, April 25, 2024 for all harvesters, including harvesters in Vessel Class C4701.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2024-030 has been revoked and Variation Order 2024-033 comes into effect on April 25, 2024.

DFO advises of the following 3L lobster area opening and closing dates:

Note all opening times are 0600 hours and all closing times are 2000 hours.

LFA 5 (Bonavista Bay): May 8, 2024 to July 13, 2024

LFA 6 (Trinity Bay): April 25, 2024 to July 7, 2024

LFA 7 (Conception Bay): May 3, 2024 to July 8, 2024

LFA 8 (Southern Shore): May 9, 2024 to July 13, 2024

LFA 9A (Trepassey Bay): May 7, 2024 to July 4, 2024

LFA 9B (St. Mary's Bay): April 25, 2024 to July 5, 2024

Harvesters are reminded that they are not permitted to retrieve fishing gear or possess lobsters during the initial 48 hour gear-setting period after the opening date.

Harvesters are also reminded they are permitted to harvest bait for the lobster fishery as per the conditions of their bait licence.

Licence fees and licence conditions will soon be available in the National Online Licencing System (NOLS).

Inshore Snow Crab Buddy-up Application Available for Area 2J Harvesters

DFO wishes to advise Area 2J Inshore snow crab harvesters that the 2024 buddy-up application is available through the National Online Licensing System (NOLS) National Online Licensing System (NOLS).  

The Inshore snow crab application can be downloaded and submitted by following Step-By-Step Instructions through: Step-By-Step Instructions through NOLS.

- Select Submit Request
- Select Request Type – Partnership/Pooling/Buddy Up
- Select Request Subtype – Snow Crab (Less than 50’ fleet)
- Select the Instructions link to open, and save or print the application
- Complete and sign the application
- If saving the signed application to your computer, Select Browse to attach the signed application to your request
- Select Submit

Completed applications received through the National Online Licensing System will be processed in priority as they are received by Licensing staff.

2024 SNOW CRAB SEASON OPENING FOR 3K

Fisheries and Oceans Canada advises that the Snow Crab fishery in 3K will open on the following dates:

Crab Management Area 4 will open at 6:00 am on Thursday April 11, 2024 for the purpose of travelling to the fishing ground. Fish harvesters are reminded that they are not authorized to set Crab traps until 72 hours after  the Snow Crab fishery season has opened. Therefore, any setting of Crab traps or possession of Crab before 6:00 am on Sunday April 14, 2024 is prohibited.

Crab Management Areas 3A and 3D will open at 12:00 am (midnight) on Sunday April 14, 2024 for the purpose of travelling to the fishing ground. Fish harvesters are reminded that they are not authorized to set Crab traps until 6 hours after the Snow Crab fishery season has opened. Therefore, any setting of Crab traps or possession of Crab before 6:00 am on Sunday April 14, 2024 is prohibited.

Crab Management Area 3BC will open at 6:00 am on Saturday, April 20, 2024 for the purpose of travelling to the fishing ground. Fish harvesters are reminded that they are not authorized to set Crab traps until 24 hours after the Snow Crab fishery season has opened. Therefore, any setting of Crab traps or possession of Crab before 6:00 am on Sunday April 21, 2024 is prohibited.

Crab Management Areas 3B and 3C will open at 12:00 am (midnight) on Sunday April 21, 2024 for the purpose of travelling to the fishing ground. Fish harvesters are reminded that they are not authorized to set Crab traps until 6 hours after the Snow Crab fishery season has opened. Therefore, any setting of Crab traps or possession of Crab before 6:00 am on Sunday April 21, 2024 is prohibited.

DFO wishes to advise lobster harvesters in lobster Fishing Area 11 that Buddy-up has been approved. The 2024 Buddy-up Application is available by making a request through the National Online Licensing System (NOLS) https://fishing-peche.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/

Arrangements must be requested, approved, and in place prior to the release of 2024 Lobster Licence Conditions, the start of the 2024 Lobster season, and before any fishing activity occurs for the buddy-up species.

PLEASE NOTE: APPLICATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED BY CLOSE OF BUSINESS DAY, 17:00 HOURS, ON APRIL 15, 2024.
