DFO advises that in accordance with the soft-shell protocol, the following grid in Crab Fishing Area 4 in NAFO Division 3K will close to fishing Snow Crab and Northern Shrimp at midnight on Friday, June 21, 2024 due to a high incidence of soft-shell crab:

Grid AB 37

This grid will be closed to Snow crab fishing for the remainder of the year. Harvesters should note that all gear in this grid must be removed immediately. Gear must be hauled and not reset on your next fishing trip.

The closure for Northern shrimp is in effect for 60 days, and will re-open on August 19, 2024, if the shrimp fishery is open at that time.

Grid quandrant AB 37 is defined as the area bounded by the following coordinates:

50° 50' North, 54° 20' West;

50° 50' North, 54° 10' West;

50° 40' North, 54° 10' West;

50° 40' North, 54° 20' West;

50° 50' North, 54° 20' West;

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Orders 2023-297 and 2024-076 have been revoked and Variation Orders 2024-083 and 2024-084 come into effect on June 20, 2024.

DFO advises that the commercial Scallop fishery in NAFO Divisions 2GHJ (Scallop Fishing Areas 1 and 2), will open at 0600 hours Saturday, June 15, 2024.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2024-047 has been revoked and Variation Order 2024-077 comes into effect on June 11, 2024.

DFO advises that the Snow Crab fishery will open at 0600 hours on Monday June 17, 2024 for NAFO divisions 2J North of 54 40. This fishery will close at 1800 hours on Saturday, August 31, 2024.

Fish Harvesters are also reminded that all designations to participate in this fishery are issued by the Nunatsiavut Government and Torngat Fisheries Cooperative Limited and must be in place prior to participating.

Fish harvesters are reminded that they are not authorized to set Crab traps until 72 hours after the Snow Crab fishery season has opened. Therefore, any setting of Crab traps or possession of Crab before 0600 hours on Thursday, June 20, 2024, is prohibited.

Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) advises that the inshore Shrimp fishery in Shrimp Fishing Area (SFA) 6 for vessels less than 90 feet, based in NAFO Divisions 2J, 3K, 3L, and 4R will open at 6:00 AM on Thursday June 6, 2024.
