NOTICE TO FISH HARVESTERS

DFO advises of the following opening and closing dates for the following Lobster Fishing Areas:

Note all opening times are 0600 hours and all closing times are 2000 hours.

- LFA 12, April 20, 2024 to June 29, 2024

- LFA 13A, April 20, 2024 to July 1, 2024

- LFA 13B, April 20, 2024 to July 2, 2024

Harvesters are reminded that they are not permitted to retrieve fishing gear or possess lobsters during the initial 48 hour gear-setting period after the opening date.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2023-295 has been revoked and Variation Order 2024-027 comes into effect on April 17, 2024.

DFO advises that the mobile gear herring (purse seine) fishery for Conception Bay and the Southern Shore (Herring Fishing Areas 7 & 8) will close at 1400 hours on Tuesday, April 16, 2024.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2024-026 has been revoked and Variation Order 2024-028 comes into effect at 1200 hours on April 16, 2023.

DFO advises that the mobile gear herring (purse seine) fishery for Bonavista Bay (Herring Fishing Area 5) will close at 2000 hours on Sunday, April 14, 2024.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Regions gives notice that Variation Order 2024-024 has been revoked and Variation Order 2024-026 comes into effect at 1700 hours on April 14, 2024.

DFO advises that the Atlantic Halibut fishery in NAFO Division 4R, for the Quebec Region Fleet (vessel classes A901 - A948) will open at 0500 hours EDT on April 17, 2024, and close at 2359 hours EDT on May 14, 2024.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2024-020 has been revoked and Variation Order 2024-025 comes into effect on April 13, 2024.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Regions gives notice that Variation Order 2024-023 has been revoked and Variation Order 2024-024 comes into effect at 1700 hours on April 12, 2024.

Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) advises that the Shrimp fishery in Shrimp Fishing Area 8 for the Western NL fleet will open at 6:00 AM on Friday April 12, 2024.

Licence fees and licence conditions will soon be available in the National Online Licencing System (NOLS).

DFO advises that the Skate Fishery in NAFO Sub-Division 3Ps, for mobile gear vessels less than 65 feet, will open at 0600 hours on April 12, 2024.

Incidental catch provisions for this fishery are outlined in harvesters’ species-specific and 2024 Groundfish General Licence conditions.

DFO wishes to advise Area 2J Inshore snow crab harvesters that the 2024 buddy-up application is available through the National Online Licensing System (NOLS) National Online Licensing System (NOLS).  

The Inshore snow crab application can be downloaded and submitted by following Step-By-Step Instructions through: Step-By-Step Instructions through NOLS.

- Select Submit Request
- Select Request Type – Partnership/Pooling/Buddy Up
- Select Request Subtype – Snow Crab (Less than 50’ fleet)
- Select the Instructions link to open, and save or print the application
- Complete and sign the application
- If saving the signed application to your computer, Select Browse to attach the signed application to your request
- Select Submit

Completed applications received through the National Online Licensing System will be processed in priority as they are received by Licensing staff.

DFO advises that the Fixed Gear (Bar/Tuck Seine) Herring fishery will open on Thursday, April 11, 2024 at 0600 hours for the following:

- Herring Fishing Area 5- Bonavista Bay 
- Herring Fishing Area 6- Trinity Bay 
- Herring Fishing Area 7- Conception Bay 
- Herring Fishing Area 8- Southern Shore 

Fish harvesters are reminded that logbooks are mandatory in these Fixed Gear herring fisheries.
