Fixed Gear Capelin Fishery Opening in Bonavista Bay and Trinity Bay

DFO advises that the capelin fishery for vessels using fixed gear (tuck, bar seine and trap) will open on July 9, 2024, at 0600 hours in Bonavista Bay and Trinity Bay (Capelin Fishing Areas 5 and 6).

Harvesters are reminded that the fishery must be open for 24 hours before any Capelin can be removed from any fixed gear.

Licence conditions can be obtained through DFO's National On-line Licencing System.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Regions gives notice that Variation Order 2024-115 has been revoked and Variation Order 2024-120 comes into effect on July 9, 2024.

DFO advises fish harvesters that the Snow crab fishery in Crab Fishing Area 11 East will close at 2000 hours on Monday July 8, 2024, as the available harvesting cap for this fishery is about to be reached.

All gear must be removed from the water by closing time.

DFO advises that the capelin fishery for vessels using fixed gear (tuck, bar seine and trap) will open on July 5, 2024 at 0600 hours in the following areas:

White Bay (Capelin Fishing Area 3)

• Cape Bauld to Fischot Island

• Fischot Island to Cape Fox

• Cape Fox to Hampden, Inclusive

Harvesters are reminded that the fishery must be open for 24 hours before any Capelin can be removed from any fixed Gear.

Licence conditions can be obtained through DFO’s National On-line Licencing System.

2024 ATLANTIC MACKEREL BAIT FISHERY

Fisheries and Oceans Canada will be pausing the Atlantic mackerel bait fishery in all Mackerel Fishing Areas as of 23:59 (Atlantic Daylight Time) on July 4, 2024. This notice to stop fishing is for conservation purposes as landings are near the first 235 tonne portion of the total allowable catch (TAC).

The second 235 tonnes portion of the Atlantic mackerel bait fishery TAC is scheduled to be released in August with the exact date to be communicated in the coming weeks. For harvesters with a multi-species bait licence, please refer to your conditions of licence.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2024-064 has been revoked and Variation Order 2024-111 comes into effect at 1600 hours on July 4, 2024.
