DFO advises that the 2+3KLMNO Mobile Gear Greenland halibut (Turbot) fishery will close on June 18, 2024 at 2000 hours as the quota has been taken.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2024-080 has been revoked and Variation Order 2024-082 comes into effect at 1800 hours on June 18, 2024.

Atlantic Halibut Opening in 4R for Quebec Region Fleet

DFO advises that the Atlantic halibut fishery in NAFO Division 4R, for vessels classes A1800 to A1988 based in the Quebec Region, will open at 0500 hours EDT June 17, 2024 and close at 2359 hours EDT September 22, 2024.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2024-075 has been revoked and Variation Order 2024-081 comes into effect on June 13, 2024.

HERRING FIXED GEAR FISHERY CLOSING IN PORTIONS OF AREA 14

DFO reminds harvesters that the Herring fixed gear fishery (gillnet, trap, bar seine, including tuck seine) in portions of Herring Fishing Area 14 (Cape St. Gregory to Cape Bauld) will close at 0600 June 15, 2024 and will re-open on August 1, 2024 at 0001 hours.

The portions of Herring Fishing Area 14 that will be closed are:

- Ingornachoix Bay and Hawkes Bay, inside a straight line drawn from Spirity Point to the French shore site.

- Castor's Harbour, inside a straight line drawn from Castor Point to Long Point.

- Ste. Geneveive Bay and St. Barbe Bay inside a straight line drawn from Cape Ste. Geneveive to Anchor Point.

- The area inside a straight line drawn from The Arches to Cliffy Point, and the area within one nautical mile seaward of that line.

- Bonne Bay inside a straight line drawn from Western Head to Lobster Cove Point.

These closures are for the protection of migrating salmon.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2024-073 has been revoked and Variation Order 2024-079 comes into effect on June 12, 2024.

DFO reminds harvesters that the Herring fixed gear fishery (trap, gillnet, bar seine - including modified bar seine known as "tuck seine") in all of Herring Fishing Area 12, and portions of Herring Fishing Area 13 will close at 0600 hours June 15, 2024 and will re-open on August 1, 2024 at 0001 hours.

The areas that are closed are all of Fishing Area 12 (NAFO sub-Division 3Pn) and the following portions of Herring Fishing Area 13:

- That portion near Serpentine River, inside a straight line from Rope Cove, north to Coal River Head and the area within one nautical mile seaward of that line.

- That portion near Fox Island River, inside a straight line from Road Point, north to position 48 degree 43.392 minutes North, 58 degrees 39.634 minutes West and the area within one nautical mile seaward of that line.

- That portion from a line drawn due west of Cape Ray, north to a line drawn due west of Cape St. George.

Greenland Halibut (Turbot) Fixed Gear Fishery Opening for <65 ft. Fleet in NAFO Divisions 2+3K

DFO advises harvesters that the less than 65 ft. fixed gear Greenland Halibut (Turbot) fishery in NAFO Divisions 2+3K will open on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at 0600 hours.

Fish Harvesters are required to hail-out to an At Sea Observer Company 24 hours prior to leaving port.

License conditions will be available on the National Online Licensing System (NOLS) for those harvesters who submitted an Expression of Interest and are eligible to participate in the NAFO Divisions 2+3K fixed gear Greenland halibut (Turbot) fishery.

AMENDMENT: 2024 Snow Crab Season Opening for 2HJ (North)

DFO advises that the Snow Crab fishery will open at 0600 hours on Monday June 17, 2024 for NAFO divisions 2J North of 54 40. This fishery will close at 1800 hours on Saturday, August 31, 2024.

Fish Harvesters are also reminded that all designations to participate in this fishery are issued by the Nunatsiavut Government and Torngat Fisheries Cooperative Limited and must be in place prior to participating.

Fish harvesters are reminded that they are not authorized to set Crab traps until 72 hours after the Snow Crab fishery season has opened. Therefore, any setting of Crab traps or possession of Crab before 0600 hours on Thursday, June 20, 2024, is prohibited.

Licence fees and licence conditions are available through the National Online Licencing System (NOLS).
