DFO reminds harvesters that all capelin fisheries in the Newfoundland and Labrador Region are closed.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Orders 2022-109 and 2022-194 have been revoked and Variation Orders 2022-241 and 2022-240 come into effect at 2359 hours on December 31, 2022.

Herring Mobile Gear Opening in St. Mary's Bay and Placentia Bay for >55' fleet

Fisheries and Oceans Canada advises that the Herring fishery in St. Mary's Bay, Herring Fishing Area 09 and Placentia Bay, Herring Fishing Area 10 for mobile gear vessels in the greater than 55 feet (16.76 m) allocation, will open at 0600 hours on Saturday, December 17, 2022.

Fishers are reminded that At-Sea Observer coverage and Dockside Monitoring services must be arranged prior to fishing.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2022-234 has been revoked and Variation Order 2022-237 comes into effect on December 16, 2022.

HERRING FIXED GEAR FISHERY CLOSING IN AREA 14

DFO advises that the Herring fixed gear fishery (trap, gillnet, bar seine - including modified bar seine known as "tuck seine") in all of Herring Fishing Area 14 will close at 2000 hours October 4, 2022.

Fish harvesters are reminded that all fishing gear must be removed from the water by the closing time.

Any harvester impacted in this fishery closure by Fiona is asked to reach out to the Corner Brook Area Office at (709) 649-3549.
