DFO advises that the Capelin fixed gear fishery using traps and bar seine (including modified bar seine known as "tuck seine"), for vessels less than 65 feet, in a portion of Western NL will open at 1400 hours on July 27, 2023.

The specific Capelin quota zone that will open is as follows:

Capelin Fishing Area 14 from the Quebec/Labrador border, north to Cape Charles and west of a line drawn between the following points:

51 degrees 20 minutes North, 56 degrees 57 minutes West, and

51 degrees 57 minutes North, 55 degrees 21 minutes West.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Regions gives notice that Variation Order 2023-175 has been revoked and Variation Order 2023-176 comes into effect at 1400 hours on July 27, 2023.
