DFO advises that the Inshore fishery in NAFO Divisions 3NO for Atlantic Halibut, Monkfish and Skate using longline will open on August 7, 2025 at 0600 hours for the following vessel classes:

A251, A254, A257, A260, A263, A266, A269, and A272

Licence conditions can be obtained by emailing david.small@dfo-mpo.gc.ca or by calling (709) 292-5167.

Fish harvesters are reminded that all licence holders are required to provide a Daily Report of your fishing activity.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Regions gives notice that Variation Order 2025-148 has been revoked and Variation Order 2025-167 comes into effect on August 1, 2025.

Fixed Gear Capelin Fishery reopening in White Bay

Fisheries and Oceans Canada hereby gives notice that capelin fishing is permitted in Capelin Fishing Area 3 (CFA 3) for fish harvesters with a homeport between Cape Fox and Hampden inclusive, with a 2025 capelin fixed gear fishing licence for CFA 3. This notice is effective on July 30, 2025 at 0600 hours and until further notice .

Soft-Shell Closed Areas for Crab in NAFO Division 3L

DFO advises that in accordance with the soft-shell protocol, the following grid in Crab Fishing Nearshore (NS) in NAFO Division 3L will close to fishing Snow Crab at midnight on Sunday, July 27, 2025 due to a high incidence of soft-shell crab:

Grid F 16

This grid will be closed to Snow crab fishing for the remainder of the year. Harvesters should note that all gear in these grids must be hauled and removed immediately, resetting of gear is not permitted.

Grid F 16 is defined as the area bounded by the following coordinates:

48° 30' North, 52° 00' West;
48° 20' North, 52° 00' West;
48° 20' North, 51° 50' West;
48° 30' North, 51° 50' West; 
48° 30' North, 52° 00' West;

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2025-154 has been revoked and Variation Order 2025-155 comes into effect on July 25, 2025.

DFO advises that the capelin fishery for vessels using fixed gear (tuck, bar seine and trap) will open by permit only on July 23, 2025 at 0600 hours and close on July 24, 2025 at 2200 hours in Bonavista Bay (Capelin Fishing Area 5).

Licence conditions can be obtained through DFO's National On-line Licencing System for those harvesters who have been contacted for the above date.
