DFO advises that the Atlantic Halibut hook and line (long line) fishery in NAFO Divisions 4R ONLY, for fixed gear vessels less than 65 feet based in Western NL and Southern Labrador that elected to fish in Period 5, for Vessel class A293, will close at 2000 hours on December 19, 2025.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2025-266 has been revoked, and Variation Order 2025-286 comes into effect on December 13, 2025.

DFO advises that the Greenland Halibut (turbot) fixed gear fishery in NAFO Division 4RST, in all water depths will close for vessels less than 65 feet based in NAFO Divisions 4R at 2000 hours on Sunday, December 14, 2025.

DFO reminds harvesters that all gear must be removed from the water by closing time.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2025-214 has been revoked and Variation Order 2025-283 comes into effect on December 12, 2025.

Mobile Gear Herring Fishery Opening By Permit Only in Notre Dame Bay (HFA 4)

DFO advises that the Mobile Gear (Purse Seine) Herring fishery will open by permit only on Sunday, December 7, 2025 at 0600 hours and close on December 21, 2025 at 2200 hours in Notre Dame Bay (Herring Fishing Area 4).

Licence conditions can be obtained through DFO's National On-line Licencing System for those harvesters who have been contacted for the above date.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Regions gives notice that Variation Order 2025-265 has been revoked and Variation Order 2025-271 comes into effect on December 6, 2025.

Reopening of the Atlantic Halibut Fishery for the Inshore Fixed-Gear Fleet in NAFO Sub-Division 3Ps

DFO advises that the directed fishery for Atlantic halibut in NAFO Sub-Division 3Ps will reopen to the inshore fixed–gear fleet (fixed-gear vessels less than 65 feet - Vessel Classes A251, A254, A257, A260, A263, A266, A269, A272, A275, and A279) at 0600 hours on December 4, 2025. New license conditions are not required.

DFO also reminds harvesters that the retention of Atlantic halibut as bycatch in other open directed groundfish fisheries in 3Ps is authorized at this time.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Regions gives notice that Variation Order 2025-258 has been revoked and Variation Order 2025-266 comes into effect on December 3, 2025.
