DFO wishes to advise lobster harvesters that a declaration is required for Lobster Fishing Area (LFA) 11W. 

Please note a declaration is only required if you intend to fish in LFA 11W - that portion of Lobster Fishing Area 11 west of Western Head, Hare Bay. 

All LFA 11 harvesters that do not declare their intention to fish in LFA 11W will be issued a licence to fish in LFA 11E - which includes that portion of Lobster Fishing Area 11 located east of Western Head, Hare Bay.

2022 SNOW CRAB SEASON OPENING FOR 4R3Pn

Fisheries and Oceans Canada advises that the Snow Crab fishery will open at 12:00 am (midnight) on Monday, April 4, 2022 for the purpose of travelling to the fishing ground, and gear can be set 6 hours later at 6:00 am on Monday, April 4, 2022 for the following areas:

  • Outside of 8 mile
  • Bay of Islands
  • Bay St. George
  • 12A
  • 12B
  • 12C
  • 12D
  • 12E
  • 12F

Fish harvesters are reminded that they are not authorized to set Crab traps until 6 hours after the Snow Crab fishery season has opened. Therefore, any setting of Crab traps or possession of Crab before 6:00 am on Monday April 4, 2022 is prohibited.

The Snow Crab fishery will open at 12:00 am (midnight) on Monday, April 11, 2022 for the purpose of travelling to the fishing ground, and gear can be set 6 hours later at 6:00 am on Monday, April 11, 2022 for the following areas:

  • 12G
  • 12H

Fish harvesters are reminded that they are not authorized to set Crab traps until 6 hours after the Snow Crab fishery season has opened. Therefore, any setting of Crab traps or possession of Crab before 6:00 am on Monday April 11, 2022 is prohibited.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2021-304 has been revoked and Variation Order 2022-019 comes into effect on April 1, 2022.

- 3L Small Supps, 3L Large Supps, 3L Fulltime and 3L Greater than 65’ fleets

- 3Ps Supplementary fleet

Fish harvesters are reminded that they are not authorized to set Crab traps until 72 hours after the Snow Crab fishery season has opened. Therefore, any setting of Crab traps or possession of Crab before 6:00AM on Monday April 4, 2022 is prohibited.

Reminder - SCALLOP FISHERY CLOSURE - PLACENTIA BAY

DFO advises fish harvesters that the portion of Scallop Fishing Area 10 (Placentia Bay), inside a line drawn from Point Verde (47 14.33" N, 54 00.94"W) on the east side of the bay, to Red Harbour (47 16.59"N, 54 58.58"w) on the west side, Inner Bay, will close 2000 March 31, 2022 and will reopen 0600 hours September 1, 2022 in line with the management plan for that fishery.

2022 Inshore Snow Crab Buddy-Up Application Available for NAFO Divisions 3K and 3L

DFO wishes to advise inshore snow crab harvesters that the 2022 Buddy-up Application is available through the National Online Licensing System (NOLS) National Online Licensing System

The inshore snow crab buddy-up application can be downloaded and submitted by following Step-By-Step Instructions through NOLS Submitting a Request and Checking the Request Status: Step-by-Step

-              Select Submit Request

-              Select Request Type – Partnership/Pooling/Buddy Up

-              Select Request Subtype – Snow Crab (Less than 40’ fleet)

-              Select the Instructions link to open and save or print the application

-              Complete and sign the application (Fish Harvester A and Fish Harvester B must sign the same application. 

-              Save a Scanned copy or picture of the signed application 

-              Select Browse to attach the signed application to your request

-              Select Submit

Any harvesters experiencing issues with accessing their online NOLS account, should contact the NOLS Support Line 1-877-535-7307 to have the issue resolved.

Bonavista Bay (CFA 5A) Inshore Crab Area Selection Applications Extended

DFO advises inshore crab harvesters in Crab Fishing Area 5A that, at the request of industry, the following quota differential will be implemented for the 2022 crab fishing season: 

Crab Fishing Area 5A - Bonavista Bay - the 2022 differential will be 1,500 lbs. 

As a result of this change, Area Selection applications will be accepted until COB, Friday March 4th, 2022 for Bonavista Bay harvesters who wish to change their area as a result of this reduction. 

Harvesters can obtain an application by contacting the area licencing center or detachment office by phone or e-mail. Applications can also be requested from the National Online Licencing System (NOLS). 

Please note Area Selection Applications only need to be completed if you are looking to move areas. If you do not fill out the form you will remain in the area you were licensed for in 2021.

11E that Area Selection applications are available for Inner or Outer areas and can be requested through the National Online Licensing System (NOLS). Applications need only to be completed if you are looking to change areas. If you wish to remain in the area that you were licensed for in 2021, no application is required. 

Please upload completed application to the National Online Licensing System (NOLS). 

NOTE: APPLICATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED BY CLOSE OF BUSINESS DAY MARCH 4, 2022. 

Submission of the application does not indicate approval. The final decision will be communicated through the National Online Licensing System (NOLS) via appropriate documentation.
