DFO reminds harvesters in Scallop Fishing Area 11 of a closure at Little River for Salmon conservation purposes. Harvesters should refer to their conditions of license for coordinates.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2024-006 has been revoked and Variation Order 2024-007 comes into effect on February 3, 2024.

Area 9 (Inner St. Mary's Bay) Scallop Fishery Opening

DFO advises that the commercial Scallop fishery in Area 9 (Inner St. Mary's Bay) in NAFO Division 3L will open at 0600 hours Friday, February 2, 2024 for harvesters in the following Vessel Class: C4701.

Harvesters are reminded that information returns (logbooks) are a requirement for this fishery.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2023-299 has been revoked and Variation Order 2024-006 comes into effect on February 2, 2024.

2024 Area Selection Applications Available for 3L Inshore Crab Harvesters

DFO wishes to advise Crab Harvesters that Area Selection Applications are available for the following inshore Crab Fishing Areas 5A, 6A, and 6B. Harvesters can obtain an application by contacting the area licencing center or detachment office by phone or e-mail.

Applications can also be requested from the National Online Licencing System (NOLS).

Please note: Area Selection Applications only need to be completed if you are looking to move areas.

If you do not fill out the form you will remain in the area you were licensed for in 2023. 

Applications must be received by close of business day on February 23, 2024.

DFO advises that Squid, Whelk, and Sea Cucumber will be closed for all fishing areas as of Sunday, December 31, 2023 at 2359 hours.

DFO also reminds harvesters that the Snow crab, Lobster and Scallop fisheries are closed for all fishing areas with the exception of the Scallop fishery in the portion of Scallop Fishing Area 10 (Placentia Bay), inside a line drawn from Point Verde (47°14.33'N, 54°00.94'W) on the east side of the bay, to Red Harbour Head (47°16.59'N, 54°58.58'W) on the west side, which will remain open until March 31, 2024. This is in line with the management measures for this fishery.

DFO advises 3Ps scallop harvesters that Scallop Fishing Area 11, North of 47 00 N and west of a line drawn from Dantzic Point (46 degrees 59 minutes 32.4 seconds North latitude, 55 degrees 58 minutes 34.8 seconds West longitude) to the Northwest Head of Brunette Island (47 degrees 15 minutes 49 seconds North, 55 degrees 58 minutes 1 second West) to Pass Island Tickle (47 degrees 30 minutes 21 seconds North, 56 degrees 11 minutes 12 seconds West) in water depths greater than 5 fathoms will close at 1800 hours on Thursday, December 21, 2023.

DFO reminds fish harvesters that logbook submissions for this fishery are mandatory and must be completed in full and submitted as per the conditions of license.
