DFO reminds harvesters that all capelin fisheries in the Newfoundland and Labrador Region are closed.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Orders 2023-251 and 2023-252 have been revoked and Variation Orders 2023-292 and 2023-293 come into effect at 2359 hours on December 31, 2023.

DFO advises that the mobile gear Herring fishery (Purse Seine) will open by permit only on December 13, 2023 at 0600 hours and close on December 20, 2023 at 1600 hours in Conception Bay (Herring Fishing Area 7).

Licence conditions can be obtained through DFO’s National On-line Licencing System for those harvesters who have been contacted for the above date.

Fisheries and Oceans Canada advises that the Herring fishery in St. Mary's Bay, Herring Fishing Area 09 and Placentia Bay, Herring Fishing Area 10 for mobile gear vessels in the greater than 55 feet (16.76 m) allocation, will open at 0600 hours on Thursday, December 7, 2023.

Fishers are reminded that At-Sea Observer coverage and Dockside Monitoring services must be arranged prior to fishing.

DFO advises that the Bluefin Tuna fishery in NAFO Divisions 3KLNOP is open by permit only for vessels with 2023 Bluefin tuna tag numbers:

3651, 3652, 3969 and tags in the series 3771 through 3780.

Tag numbers 3857 and 3919 are no longer valid effective 1800 hours November 24, 2023.
