DFO advises harvesters that the 2J3KL Stewardship Cod Fall Fishery will now open on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at 06:00 hours.

Fish Harvesters are advised that license conditions are available on the National Online Licensing System (NOLS).

As per the CHP the base authorized bi-weekly limits will be:                                                

3KL: Regular Season fishers = 8500 lbs. base bi-weekly                                              

3KL: Fall Only Option = 17,000 lbs. base bi-weekly

To ensure that the total harvest remains within the maximum authorized harvest, the Department will continue to monitor this fishery closely. There is approximately 2,100t remaining in 3KL. Any changes or adjustments that may need to be made will be communicated in advance to harvesters via a Notice to Fishers.                                                      

Harvesters are reminded that they are to ensure that landing limits are not exceeded by setting only the amount of fishing gear that is necessary.

DFO advises that the Greenland Halibut fishery in NAFO Division 4R for Quebec-based vessel class A213 will close at 1700 hours EDT September 9, 2022 as landings are approaching the total allowable catch for this fishery.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Regions gives notice that Variation Order 2022-123 has been revoked and Variation Order 2022-212 comes into effect at 1630 hours on September 9, 2022.

DFO advises that due to the marine forecast and DFO’s commitment to safety at sea, that the Fall opening of Northern Cod Stewardship Fishery in NAFO Divisions 3KL that was scheduled to open on September 11th, 2022 will be delayed. The Department will reassess on Monday, September 12, 2022, and will provide an update at that time.

DFO would like to remind harvesters fishing in the Northern cod Stewardship Fishery in 2J (Vessel Class A292) that as per the 2022 Conservation Harvesting Plan for this fishery, catch limits and gear limits will change on Sunday, September 4th.

The authorized catch limit will change to a bi-weekly base limit of 40,000 lbs. and the authorized gear limits will also change. Further details on gear and catch limits can be found in the 2022 CHP at: 2022 Conservation Harvesting Plan (CHP) 2J3KL Stewardship Cod fishery - AMENDED July 15, 2022

DFO advises that the Atlantic Halibut fishery in NAFO Division 4R, for vessel classes A1800 to A1999 based in the Quebec Region will now close on September 11, 2022 at 2359 hrs (EDT).

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2022-203 has been revoked and Variation Order 2022-210 comes into effect on September 1, 2022.

DFO reminds harvesters that the Northern cod Stewardship fishery in NAFO Divisions 3KL will reopen to harvesters who selected the regular season at 0600 hours on Sunday, September 11, 2022. This reopening applies to vessel classes A283 and A295.

DFO also reminds harvesters that the Northern cod Stewardship fishery in NAFO Divisions 3KL will open to harvesters who selected the fall only fishery option at 0600 hours on Sunday, September 11, 2022.  This opening applies to vessel class A296.

Licence conditions for the fall period commencing September 11 will be available soon to harvesters (both those who selected the regular season and fall only fishery option) via the National Online Licensing System.

DFO advises that the Unit 2 Redfish fishery will close to the <65' mobile gear fleet based in 4R3Pn, Vessel Classes C405, C406, C422, C437,and C440, on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at 2000 hrs. The quota for this fleet is expected to be taken by closing time.

DFO advises that the Atlantic Halibut fishery in NAFO Division 4R, for vessels based in the Quebec Region, will open at 0500 hours EDT September 5, 2022 and close at 2359 hours EDT September 13, 2022. The specific vessel classes affected by these openings and closings are A2343 to A2456.
