DFO wishes to advise harvesters that the Lumpfish fishery will open at 0600 hours on June 7, 2023 and close at 2000 hours on July 26, 2023 in the following NAFO Division 3K Lumpfish fishing area:

Fishing for Lumpfish is authorized in water depths less than 25 fathoms.

Licence fees and licence conditions are available on the National Online Licencing System (NOLS).

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Regions gives notice that Variation Order 2023-089 has been revoked and Variation Order 2023-098 comes into effect on June 7, 2023.

DFO advises that the Atlantic halibut fishery in NAFO Division 4R, for vessels classes A1800 to A1988 based in the Quebec Region, will open at 0500 hours EDT June 12, 2023 and close at 2359 hours EDT September 18, 2023.

DFO advises that the Atlantic Halibut hook and line (long line) fishery in NAFO Divisions 4RST, for fixed gear vessels less than 65 feet based in Western NL and Southern Labrador that elected to fish in Period 1, will open at 0600 hours on Monday, June 5, 2023. This fishery is open to vessel class A285 and will close at 2000 hours on June 18, 2023.

DFO reminds fish harvesters that logbooks for this fishery are mandatory and must be completed in full and submitted as per the conditions of licence.

DFO advises that the fishery for Atlantic Halibut in NAFO Division 3NO, for vessel classes A325 and A353 (Maritimes) using longline will open on Friday, June 2, 2023 at 0600 hours.

DFO advises harvesters that the less than 65 ft. fixed gear Greenland halibut (Turbot) fishery in NAFO Divisions 3LMNO will open on Saturday, June 3rd, 2023 at 06:00 hours.

Fish Harvesters are required to hail-out to an At Sea Observer Company 24 hours prior to leaving port.

License conditions will be available on the National Online Licensing System (NOLS) for those harvesters who submitted an Expression of Interest and are eligible to participate in the NAFO Divisions 3LMNO fixed gear Greenland halibut (Turbot) fishery. 

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2023-085 has been revoked and Variation Order 2023-094 comes into effect at on June 1, 2023.

DFO advises that the Atlantic halibut fishery in NAFO Division 4R, for vessels based in the Quebec Region, will open at 0430 hours EDT June 5, 2023 and close at 2359 hours EDT August 28, 2023. The specific vessel classes affected by these openings and closings are A949 to A990.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2023-090 has been revoked and Variation Order 2023-091 comes into effect at on May 31, 2023.

DFO advises that the Greenland Halibut (turbot) fishery in NAFO Divisions 4RST will open in water depths 140 fathoms or greater, for fixed gear vessels (Vessel Class A284) less than 65 feet based in NAFO Divisions 2J4R3Pn, will open at 0600 hours on May 28, 2023.

By-catch limits are outlined in conditions.

4R3Pn based fixed gear groundfish harvesters who are not eligible under the Atlantic Halibut Sustainability Plan who wish to participate in the 4R Greenland Halibut (Turbot) fishery should submit a request through the National Online Licencing System.
