DFO advises that the Atlantic Halibut fishery in NAFO Sub-Division 3Pn, for vessels less than 65 feet using hook and line gear, will close at 1200 hours on June 24, 2023. The reason for the closure is that the available harvesting cap for this fishery is about to be reached. Fish harvesters are reminded that all fishing gear must be removed from the water by closing time.

DFO advises that the Witch flounder (Greysole) fishery for vessels less than 65 feet, using Danish seine (vessel classes C50 and C351), will open in NAFO sub-Division 4Rd - from a line drawn due west of Cape Ray, north to a line drawn due west of Cape St. George at 0600 hours on June 23, 2023.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2022-251 has been revoked and Variation Order 2023-110 comes into effect on June 21, 2023.

DFO advises that the 3Ps Greenland Halibut (Turbot) fishery for vessels less than and greater than 65' using gillnets and hook and line gear, will open at 0600 hours on Thursday, June 15, 2023.

DFO will monitor fishing activity and will close the fishery if the incidental catch of Atlantic halibut exceeds the established protocols.

Greenland Halibut (Turbot) Fixed Gear Fishery Opening for <65 ft. Fleet in NAFO Divisions 2+3K

DFO advises harvesters that the less than 65 ft. fixed gear Greenland halibut (Turbot) fishery in NAFO Divisions 2+3K will open on Thursday, June 15, 2023 at 06:00 hours.

Fish Harvesters are required to hail-out to an At Sea Observer Company 24 hours prior to leaving port.

License conditions are available on the National Online Licensing System (NOLS) for those harvesters who submitted an Expression of Interest and are eligible to participate in the NAFO Divisions 2+3K fixed gear Greenland halibut (Turbot) fishery.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Regions gives notice that Variation Order 2023-094 has been revoked and Variation Order 2023-102 comes into effect on June 13, 2023.

DFO advises that the Lumpfish fishery will open at 0600 hours on June 8, 2023 and close on July 26, 2023 at 2000hrs in a portion of NAFO Division 4R from Ferolle Point to Cape Bauld.

Fishing for Lumpfish is authorized in water depths less than 25 fathoms.
