REMINDER: 2024 Applications for Crab Fishing Area 3BC in NAFO Division 3K are Available

DFO wishes to advise inshore crab harvesters in Crab Fishing Areas 3B (White Bay) and 3C (Green Bay) in NAFO Division 3K that applications for CFA 3BC are now available.

Harvesters can obtain an application by contacting the area licencing center by phone or e-mail. Applications can also be requested from the National Online Licencing System (NOLS).

Applications must be returned to the Area Office by close of business on March 15, 2024.

3Ps LFA 11W Area Selection Declaration

DFO wishes to advise lobster harvesters that a declaration is required for Lobster Fishing Area (LFA) 11W for the 2024 season.

Please note a declaration is only required if you intend to fish in LFA 11W (that portion of Lobster Fishing Area 11 west of Western Head, Hare Bay).

All LFA 11 harvesters that do not declare their intention to fish in LFA 11W will be issued a license to fish in LFA 11E (that portion of Lobster Fishing Area 11 located east of Western Head, Hare Bay).

PLEASE NOTE: Declaration must be requested through the National Online Licensing System (NOLS).

Declarations must be received by close of business day Friday, March 29, 2024.

3O Mobile Gear Redfish Fishery Opening

DFO advises that the 3O Mobile Gear Redfish fishery will open at 0600 hours on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, for the less than 65’ mobile gear fleet, vessel classes C150, C151, C175, and C176. 

The 2024 quota for this fishery is 1,086 t. 

Conditions of license are available through the National Online Licensing System (NOLS). 

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Regions gives notice that Variation Order 2023-306 has been revoked and Variation Order 2024-009 comes into effect on March 6, 2024.

3Ps Cod Fishery Closing

DFO advises that the directed cod fishery in NAFO Sub-Division 3Ps will close to all fleets at 2400 hours on Thursday, February 29, 2024.

All fishing gear must be removed from the water by closing time.

This closure applies to all vessel classes.

Fish harvesters are asked to return their Inshore Fixed Gear Logbooks after the conclusion of fishing operations.

Seal Fishery Closing

DFO advises that both the Commercial fishery and Personal Use fishery for Harp seals and Hooded seals will close in all areas to all seal harvesters and all fleets based in Newfoundland and Labrador at 1800 hours on Friday, March 1, 2024.

This is the annual closure to allow time for Seal whelping and nursing.

Re-opening dates for the 2024 season for these Seal fisheries, in both the Gulf and on the Front, will be announced at a later date.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2023-014 has been revoked and Variation Order 2024-008 comes into effect on February 24, 2024.
