DFO advises that the Fixed Gear (Bar/Tuck Seine) Herring fishery will open on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at 0600 hours in Conception Bay and the Southern Shore (Herring Fishing Areas 7 and 8).

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Regions gives notice that Variation Order 2024-291 has been revoked and Variation Order 2024-301 comes into effect on November 27, 2024.

Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) advises the public of the closure for the harvesting of all bivalve shellfish including Arctic wedge clams, Atlantic razor clams, Atlantic surf clams, bay quahaugs, northern propeller clams, ocean quahaugs, softshell clam, Stimpson's surf clams, bay mussels, blue mussel, horse mussels, American oysters, bay scallops, Iceland scallops, purple hinge rock scallop, (except sea scallops), northern moon snails, waved whelks, and Stimpson's whelks for recreational or commercial purposes in the following areas effective 1200 hours on November 22, 2024:

Those coastal waters from Davis Point (at Lat 48.27304 Long -53.41197), northwest to Cape Freels at (Lat 49.25544 Long -53.46442).

As a result, there is reason to believe that the sanitary conditions of the adjacent marine waters may have degraded to the point where accepted water quality standards have been exceeded and the contamination of the water would likely pose a risk to public health if shellfish in the affected area were harvested for consumption.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Prohibition Order NSN-2024-004 comes into effect at 1200 hours on November 22, 2024.

In accordance with Appendix VIII of the CSSP Manual of Operations, these areas must remain closed for a minimum of seven days. There will be a Public Notice when the closure is lifted.

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans would like to remind that in-person Outreach meetings will be held throughout the Region in the coming weeks.

The intent of these meetings is to provide inshore harvesters and other interested stakeholders an opportunity to discuss matters of concern with respect to the various inshore fisheries.

The meeting schedule for 4R3Pn and 3Ps harvesters is as follows:

Wednesday, November 27, 2024 – Corner Brook, Glynmill Inn: 1:30–3:30pm

Thursday, November 28, 2024 – Port Aux Basques, St. Christopher's Hotel: 1:30-3:30pm

DFO advises the Unit 1 Redfish fishery (vessels less than 65 feet) will open to NL based harvesters with Reserve Allocation in Tranche 2 for the following vessel classes C450 and C451.  The fishery will open at 0600 hours on Thursday, November 21, 2024, and will close at 2400 hours on December 31, 2024.

DFO also advises that a NEW schedule 16A for providing Daily Hail Reports for the Unit 1 Inshore Redfish commercial fishery is available on DFO’s website at: Schedule 16A: DFO approved format

These reports are required to be submitted by email to DFO.Hails65-rapport65.MPO@dfo-mpo.gc.ca .

DFO advises that the Mobile Gear (Purse Seine) Herring fishery will open on Monday, November 18, 2024 at 0600 hours in Bonavista Bay, Conception Bay and the Southern Shore (Herring Fishing Areas 5, 7 and 8).

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2024-262 has been revoked and Variation Order 2024-299 comes into effect on November 16, 2024.

DFO advises that the Atlantic Halibut hook and line (long line) fishery in NAFO Divisions 4RST, for fixed gear vessels less than 65 feet based in Western NL and Southern Labrador that elected to fish in Period 5, will open at 0600 hours on Monday, November 18, 2024. This fishery is open to vessel class A293 and will close at 2000 hours on December 15, 2024.

DFO reminds fish harvesters that logbooks for this fishery are mandatory and must be completed in full and submitted as per the conditions of licence.

DFO advises fish harvesters that the commercial cod fishery in NAFO Subdivision 3Ps(a) will close on Friday, November 15, 2024, at 1800 hours for harvesters with a homeport outside Division 3Ps(a) and (b).

Please note that 3Ps (a) will open for eligible fish harvesters with a homeport in 3Ps (a) or (b) at 0600 hours on November 16, 2024.

Those fish harvesters with a homeport in 3Ps (a) or (b), wishing to direct for cod in 3Ps (a) are advised that amended licence conditions will be required. This applies to fixed-gear vessels less than 65 feet with Vessel Class A290.

To receive these licence conditions, please make a request through the National Online Licensing System.
