3Ps FIXED GEAR SKATE, MONKFISH AND WHITE HAKE FISHERIES OPENING

DFO advises that the fixed gear skate, monkfish and white hake fisheries in NAFO subdivision 3Ps (units d, e, f, g and h) will open at 0600 hours on Saturday, June 22, 2024.

DFO also advises that the retention of Atlantic halibut bycatch by fixed-gear vessels less than 65 feet directing for Skate/Monkfish in NAFO Sub-Division 3Ps (units d, e, f, g and h) is permitted. By-catch limits are outlined in harvesters Groundfish General Licence Conditions.

Harvesters are reminded that as outlined in their conditions of licence, all cod caught, whether from directed catch or by-catch, will be charged against the harvester’s IQ or harvesting cap for their licence in 3Ps. Once a harvester has caught their cod IQ or harvesting cap, whether it is from directed fishing or as by-catch, the harvester must cease fishing for all species of groundfish in 3Ps for the remainder of the year.

Licence conditions are available on the National Online Licencing System (NOLS).

Greenland Halibut (Turbot) Fixed Gear Fishery Opening for <65 ft. Fleet in NAFO Divisions 2+3K

DFO advises harvesters that the less than 65 ft. fixed gear Greenland Halibut (Turbot) fishery in NAFO Divisions 2+3K will open on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at 0600 hours.

Fish Harvesters are required to hail-out to an At Sea Observer Company 24 hours prior to leaving port.

License conditions will be available on the National Online Licensing System (NOLS) for those harvesters who submitted an Expression of Interest and are eligible to participate in the NAFO Divisions 2+3K fixed gear Greenland halibut (Turbot) fishery.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2024-065 has been revoked and Variation Order 2024-080 comes into effect on June 12, 2024.

DFO advises that the Atlantic Halibut hook and line (long line) fishery in NAFO Divisions 4RST, for fixed gear vessels less than 65 feet based in Western NL and Southern Labrador that elected to fish in Period 1, will open at 0600 hours on Monday, June 10, 2024. This fishery is open to vessel class A285 and will close at 2000 hours on June 23, 2024.

DFO reminds fish harvesters that logbooks for this fishery are mandatory and must be completed in full and submitted as per the conditions of licence.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2024-074 has been revoked and Variation Order 2024-075 comes into effect on June 7, 2024.

The reason for the closure is that the available harvesting cap for this fishery has been reached. Fish harvesters are reminded that all fishing gear must be removed from the water by closing time.
