DFO reminds harvesters that the following Groundfish fisheries are closed for the Newfoundland and Labrador-based fleets for all vessel classes:

NAFO Area 2 + Divisions 3KLMNO and 4R Greenland halibut (turbot) inshore fixed gear fleets

NAFO Divisions 3NO, 4RST, and Sub-Division 3Pn inshore fixed gear Atlantic halibut fleets, including 3NO inshore fixed gear Maritime vessels

NAFO Divisions 3NO White hake, Skate, Redfish and Monkfish inshore fleets

NAFO Divisions 2J3KL Northern cod inshore fleets

Lumpfish fishery in all NAFO Areas in Newfoundland and Labrador Region

NAFO Divisions 3KL Winter flounder (Blackback) fishery

The Unit 1 Redfish fishery (vessels less than 65 feet) will close to NL based harvesters with Reserve Allocation in Tranche 2 for the following vessel classes C420, C434, C435, C439, C441, C446, C447, 450, and 451 on December 31.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Orders 2024-055, 2024-184, 2024-283, 2024-287, 2024-297,  2024-306, 2024-324 and 2024-325 have been revoked and Variation Orders 2024-318, 2024-319, 2024-320, 2024-321, 2024-322, 2024-323, 2024-327 and 2024-330 will come into effect at 2359 hours on December 31, 2024.

Unit 1 Redfish Reserve Allocation Tranche 3

Notice description

As previously announced, 5,000 tonnes (t) from the Total Allowable Catch (TAC) for Unit 1 Redfish for the 2024-25 management period has been set aside and held in reserve. This reserve allocation can be accessed by application. Applications are now being accepted for Tranche 3 for those planning to fish January 1 to March 31, 2025.  Applications will be assessed on a case-by-case basis and allocations awarded on a first come first serve basis.

Unit 1 Redfish Opening for NL based harvesters with Reserve Allocation

DFO advises the Unit 1 Redfish fishery (vessels less than 65 feet) will open to NL based harvesters with Reserve Allocation in Tranche 2 for the following vessel class C454.  The fishery will open at 0600 hours on Thursday, December 19, 2024, and will close at 2400 hours on December 31, 2024.

DFO also advises that a NEW schedule 16A for providing Daily Hail Reports for the Unit 1 Inshore Redfish commercial fishery is available on DFO’s website at: Schedule 16A: DFO approved format

These reports are required to be submitted by email to DFO.Hails65-rapport65.MPO@dfo-mpo.gc.ca .

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Regions gives notice that Variation Order 2024-300 has been revoked and Variation Order 2024-324 comes into effect on December 19, 2024.

DFO advises that the Atlantic Halibut hook and line (long line) fishery in NAFO Divisions 4R for fixed gear vessels less than 65 feet based in Western NL and Southern Labrador that elected to fish in Period 5, vessel class A293 will now close on December 22, 2024 at 1600 hours.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Regions gives notice that Variation Order 2024-316 has been revoked and Variation Order 2024-325 comes into effect on December 18, 2024.

GREENLAND HALIBUT (TURBOT) FISHERY CLOSING IN NAFO DIVISION 4RST

DFO advises that the Greenland Halibut (turbot) fixed gear fishery in NAFO Division 4RST, in all water depths will close for vessels less than 65 feet based in NAFO Divisions 4R at 2000 hours on Sunday, December 15, 2024.

DFO reminds harvesters that all gear must be removed from the water by closing time.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2024-284 has been revoked and Variation Order 2024-306 comes into effect on December 12, 2024.

DFO advises that the Atlantic Halibut hook and line (long line) fishery in NAFO Divisions 4RST, for fixed gear vessels less than 65 feet based in Western NL and Southern Labrador that elected to fish in Period 5, will open at 0600 hours on Monday, November 18, 2024. This fishery is open to vessel class A293 and will close at 2000 hours on December 15, 2024.

DFO reminds fish harvesters that logbooks for this fishery are mandatory and must be completed in full and submitted as per the conditions of licence.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Regions gives notice that Variation Order 2024-294 has been revoked and Variation Order 2024-298 comes into effect on November 15, 2024.

COD FISHERY CLOSING IN NAFO SUBDIVISION 3Ps (a)

DFO advises fish harvesters that the commercial cod fishery in NAFO Subdivision 3Ps(a) will close on Friday, November 15, 2024, at 1800 hours for harvesters with a homeport outside Division 3Ps(a) and (b).

Please note that 3Ps (a) will open for eligible fish harvesters with a homeport in 3Ps (a) or (b) at 0600 hours on November 16, 2024.

Those fish harvesters with a homeport in 3Ps (a) or (b), wishing to direct for cod in 3Ps (a) are advised that amended licence conditions will be required. This applies to fixed-gear vessels less than 65 feet with Vessel Class A290.

To receive these licence conditions, please make a request through the National Online Licensing System.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2024-296 has been revoked and Variation Order 2024-297 comes into effect on November 15, 2024.
