DFO reminds fish harvesters that the following inshore Groundfish fisheries are closed for the Newfoundland and Labrador-based fleets:

• NAFO Area 2 + Divisions 3KLMNO and 4RST Greenland halibut (turbot) fisheries

• NAFO Divisions 3NO,3Ps, 4RST, Sub-Division 3Pn inshore fixed gear Atlantic halibut commercial fisheries

• NAFO 3NO White hake, Skate and Monkfish inshore fleet fisheries

• The Stewardship cod fishery in NAFO Divisions 2J3KL.

• Lumpfish fishery in all NAFO areas in Newfoundland and Labrador Region

• NAFO Divisions 3KL Winter flounder (Blackback) fishery

• NAFO Division 4R Witch flounder fishery

• Unit 1 Redfish index fishery for the inshore mobile gear fleet

• 3Pn portion of the Unit 2 Redfish fishery for mobile-gear fleets

• Unit 2 Redfish fishery for the mobile-gear fleet based in NAFO Division 4R and Sub-Division 3Pn

• NAFO Sub-Division 3Ps Skate mobile gear fishery.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Orders 2023-099, 2023-260, 2023-262, 2023-269, 2023-278, 2023-279, 2023-281 and 2023-291 have been revoked and Variation Orders 2023-300, 2023-301, 2023-302, 2023-303, 2023-304, 2023-305, 2023-306 and 2023-307 will come into effect at 2359 hours on December 31, 2023.

GREENLAND HALIBUT (TURBOT) FISHERY CLOSING IN NAFO DIVISION 4RST

DFO advises that the Greenland Halibut (turbot) fixed gear fishery in NAFO Division 4RST, in all water depths will close for vessels less than 65 feet based in NAFO Divisions 4R at 2000 hours on Sunday, December 17, 2023.

DFO reminds harvesters that all gear must be removed from the water by closing time.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2023-280 has been revoked and Variation Order 2023-291 comes into effect on December 15, 2023.

CORRECTION: Retention of 4RST Atlantic halibut no longer permitted for the Inshore Mobile Gear Sector

DFO advises that as of 2000 hours Newfoundland Standard Time (NST) on Monday, December 4, 2023, the retention of Atlantic halibut as by-catch in NAFO Divisions 4RST will no longer be permitted this season for mobile gear vessels less than 65 feet. It is expected that the Atlantic Halibut by-catch allocation for the sector will have been taken by that time.

DFO advises fish harvesters that the cod fishery in NAFO Subdivision 3Ps(d) and (e) will close on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at 1800 hours in accordance with the Conservation Harvesting Plan (CHP) and is related to the mixing of cod from 4RS3Pn. This closure affects all vessel classes.

COD FISHERY CLOSING IN NAFO SUBDIVISION 3Ps (a)

DFO advises fish harvesters that the commercial cod fishery in NAFO Subdivision 3Ps(a) will close on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at 1800 hours for harvesters with a homeport outside Division 3Ps(a) and (b).

Please note that 3Ps (a) will open for eligible fish harvesters with a homeport in 3Ps (a) or (b) at 0600 hours on November 16, 2023. 

Those fish harvesters with a homeport in 3Ps (a) or (b), wishing to direct for cod in 3Ps (a) are advised that amended licence conditions will be required. This applies to fixed-gear vessels less than 65 feet with Vessel Class A290. To receive these licence conditions, please make a request through the National Online Licensing System.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Regions gives notice that Variation Order 2023-261 has been revoked and Variation Order 2023-279 comes into effect on November 15, 2023.

4RST ATLANTIC HALIBUT – SIXTH SEASONAL OPENING DATE FOR THE NL INSHORE FIXED-GEAR FLEET

DFO advises that the Atlantic Halibut hook and line (long line) fishery in NAFO Divisions 4RST, for fixed gear vessels less than 65 feet based in Western NL and Southern Labrador that elected to fish in Period 6, will open at 0600 hours on Monday, November 13, 2023. This fishery is open to vessel class A431 and will close at 2000 hours on December 17, 2023.

DFO reminds fish harvesters that logbooks for this fishery are mandatory and must be completed in full and submitted as per the conditions of licence.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Regions gives notice that Variation Order 2023-276 has been revoked and Variation Order 2023-278 comes into effect on November 11, 2023.
