Salmon Rivers Closing in Salmon Fishing Areas 3, 4, 5, 6, 13 and 14A

DFO advises anglers that due to extremely high water temperatures and/or low water levels, the following rivers in Salmon Fishing Areas (SFA) 3, 4, 5, 6, 13, and 14A will be restricted to morning angling only effective one hour after sunset on Thursday, July 27, 2023.

During this period, angling is permitted from one hour before sunrise to 10:00 am each day and will be closed to angling from 10:01 am to one hour before sunrise on the following day.

The rivers will reopen as conditions improve. Please refer to the 2023 Angler's Guide for further information on the environmental protocol.

SFA 3
18. Ariege or Salmon River including Southwest Brook and Rose’s Brook, Hare Bay.
27. *Sops Arm River, including Main Doucer’s, Natlin’s, Corner Brook, and all tributary streams

SFA 4
50.* Gander River & tributary streams not including main stem below Gander Lake but including Northwest Gander tributary, All other tributaries of the Main Stem and Southwest Gander, Waters above Great Gull Falls on Great Gull River (tributary Northwest Gander), and Waters above Big Dead Wolf Falls, including Waters and Caribou Brook (tributary Southwest Gander).

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Orders 2023-160, 2023-161, 2023-162, 2023-163, and 2023-164 have been revoked and Variation Orders 2023-168, 2023-169, 2023-170, 2023-171, and 2023-172 come into effect at 1800 hours on July 27, 2023.
