The award was presented to Mr. Drew on Thursday evening in recognition of his contribution to the Harbour Authority of Bay Bulls, Newfoundland and Labrador.

CCG 50th Anniversary - Vessel Tour

The Honorable Peter Penashue, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and President of the Queen’s Privy Council of Canada, toured the CCGS George R. Pearkes to kick off the Canadian Coast Guard’s 50th anniversary.  Minister Penashue met crew members and thanked them for their dedicated service to Canadians.  Here, Minister Penashue meets Williams Lake, British Columbia resident, Andrew Barnett, a cadet aboard the Pearkes. 
The Coast Guard provides a multitude of essential services for mariners, including search and rescue, environmental response, integrated technical services, icebreaking, aids to navigation, marine communications, maritime security and waterways development.

CCGS Henry Larsen Visit

  The Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans Canada welcomes back the crew of the Canadian Coast Guard icebreaker Henry Larsen upon her return from operations in the Arctic. Minister Ashfield met with the captain and crew on Saturday, November 19, 2011 to discuss their recent mission in the Arctic, including their role at a tragic commercial plane crash in Resolute Bay, Nunavut in August. The Henry Larsen will now undergo its annual maintenance in preparation for winter ice operations in Newfoundland and Labrador and the Gulf of St. Lawrence.

CCGS Cape Roger Visit

  The Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans Canada, inspects the new console on the bridge of the CCGS Cape Roger with Blaine Broders, Acting Chief Officer from Tilting (Fogo Island) and Steve Cain, a Navigation Student at the Coast Guard College in Sydney, Nova Scotia.  Minister Ashfield toured the ship on Saturday, November 19, 2011 and met with crew members. The vessel was recently refitted with $12 million of improvements completed under Canada's Economic Action Plan. In 2009, the Government of Canada  invested $175 million in the Canadian Coast Guard for major repair work on 40 of its large vessels, as well as the acquisition of 98 new small craft and vessels. The ship is responsible for delivering programs for Search and Rescue, Environmental Response Training, and also for conducting NAFO patrols on behalf of DFO's Ecosystems and Fisheries Management branch.

PAL Aerial Surveillance Flight

Fisheries and Oceans Canada is responsible for monitoring, control and surveillance of Canada's fisheries within its exclusive economic zone and in some international areas like the Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization (NAFO) Regulatory Area and the North Pacific. Aerial surveillance is an important aspect of Canada's fisheries enforcement activities, as well as helping to assert Canada's sovereignty and enhance marine security.
