Partial Re-opening: Molluscan Shellfish Harvesting in Notre Dame Bay
DFO advises that following acceptable water quality sampling by Environment Canada and shellstock sampling by CFIA a portion of Notre Dame Bay will re-open for molluscan shellfish harvesting.
All classified waters within three kilometres of the shoreline and islands between Seal Bay Head (approximate Lat/Lon 49.4916/-55.5435) west to Island Point on Sunday Cove Island (approximate Lat/Lon 49.5921/-55.7884)are OPEN for molluscan shellfish harvesting. Note that all underlying classifications remain the same. Only the emergency prohibition implemented based on the recent rain event has been partially rescinded.
All waters within 3 km of the coastline and islands of western Notre Dame Bay from Cape St. John (located on the Baie Verte Peninsula approximate Lat/Lon 49.9717/-55.4759) east to Island Point on Sunday Cove Island (approximate Lat/Lon 49.5921/-55.7884) will remain CLOSED.
Further testing in this area is ongoing.
This Prohibition Order NSN2015-003 comes into effect at 1100 hours on May 11, 2015.
