NOTICE TO FISH HARVESTERS
Homewaters Bluefin Tuna Fishery Opening
DFO advises that Bluefin tuna fishery for vessels fishing home waters in NAFO Division 3LNOP will open at 0600 hours on Saturday, July 15, 2017. Tags are only available to those harvesters who have declared they will fish homewaters, as per the pilot project currently under way for 2017.
Licence conditions are available on the National Online Licensing System (NOLS). Tuna tags and ICCAT forms are available at DFO detachment offices in Bay Roberts, Marystown and Placentia.
For fish harvesters who have already purchased tuna tags, your licence conditions must be returned to one of the three noted DFO offices, and your new conditions updated with tag numbers.
Harvesters are reminded that use of VMS is mandatory for the 2017 season. Additionally, hails at the time the animal is landed on board is also required for 2017. This can be provided through either a fax or by calling the toll-free number provided in licence conditions.
Harvesters are reminded that the hail at time of landing is in addition to the dockside monitoring hail. Bluefin tuna harvesters are encouraged to return tuna heads to one of the locations listed in the Conservation Harvesting Plan.
The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Regions gives notice that Variation Order 2016-262 has been revoked and Variation Order 2017-145 comes into effect on July 13, 2017.
