Consultations on Proposed Marine Recreational Fishing Licences for Eastern Canada

Introduction

On May 19, 2017, Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) announced it would consider a new marine recreational licensing system in Eastern Canada.

We are now commencing a public consultations process to seek views on a proposed new marine recreational licence for Eastern Canada. The consultation will run until September 18, 2017.

Information on the proposed marine recreational fishing licence for Eastern Canada and the consultation process is available here.

What we Heard during 2016 Consultations on the Proposed Implementation of a Licence and Tags Regime for the Recreational Groundfish fishery in Newfoundland and Labrador Region

We received significant feedback on recreational fishing licences during our 2016 consultations on the previously-proposed licence and tags regime for the recreational groundfish (cod) fishery.

We will incorporate ”What We Heard” in our 2016 consultations into the NL Region recommendations on a proposed licence system for all regions of Eastern Canada.

This document summarizes the themes emerging from the consultations in November 2016, along with all correspondence and emails received by the Department during that process:
